McHENRY AMONG LIBRARIES ML SYSTEM BEEVES Admission of two Carroll county libraries brings to twenty-nine the member libraries " of the Northern Illinois Library system. The Rockford public 1 i b r a ry serves as headquarters for all of them, including McHenry. Designed to provide more and better library services in an eight-county area, the NILS was formed in December, 1965, following passage of the Illinois Library Develo p e m e n t A c t b y t h e s t a t e legislature. Sixteen systems, funded by the state, have now been formed. Participating libraries are receiving books in quantity, especially current fiction. Also available to their patrons through the system are films, recordings, art reproductions and reference service. An added benefit of system participation is reciprocal card privileges -- anyone having a valid borrowers' card from a hetwork library is entitled to use the materials of other member libraries. Now in- operation - is an NILS van, making weekly delivery and pick-up at all libraries. Soon to be put into operation is a large bookmobile, capable of holding more than 4,000 volumes, which will make regular stops at each library. The Bookmobile has been obtained from the state library. USE THE CLA. IDS
