Following the business meeting and the 12:30 ^luncheon, members and guests from McHenry, Harvard, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Wonder Lake, Evanston and Chicago enjoyed hearing Mrs. A. B. McConnell give the program on "Old Existing Churches of Illinois." Mrs. McConnell showed slides of the different churches, giving historical data on each. Many of the churches shown were built in the 1850-18S0 years old. The oldest church shown was built in 1809, located in the vicinity of New Salem, and former Governor Oglesby is buried in its church yard. The Ivanhoe Congregational built ^ in 1839 was thev nearest church shown. ^ Guests are invited to attend the next meeting to be held at the Woodstock Opera House on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. with A.B. McConnell of Woodstock giving "The History of McHenry County." FORTY ATTEND GARDEN CLUB OPEN HOUSE The McHenry Garden club held its January meeting at the Community Metho d i st church, with Mrs. Fred Svo boda as hostess. This was an open house which was attended by about forty people despite the below zero temperature. A very interesting movie was shown and narrated by Robert Ulich of Park Ridge, called "A Year of Gardening". The next meeting will be held on March 1 at Mrs. Vaughn Jones' new home at 800 N. Center street. On March 14 a chartered bus will go to the Chicago World Flower and Garden show at the International amphitheater. It will leave the Community Methodist church at 9:15 a.m. and arrive back in McHenry about 5 p.m. Tickets and bus reservations wil be sold on a first come, first-served basis. B®n®W From Valentine Day Card Party An extremely interesting -.program has been planned for the February meeting of the McHenry Woman's club which will be held - at the Community M e t h o d i tft church on Friday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. "Line and Design" will be the title of a slide-illustrated lecture to be presented by Mrs. Katherine Newmann, home advisor for the McHenry County Home Bureau. The program has been planned by Mrs. George Kleinh a n s, chairman of the education division. Chairman of the day will be Mrs. George Kleinhans, with Mrs. Vincent Weyland on hand as tea hostess. It's full-speed ahead for the Ways and Means benefit committee members of the McHenry Women's club, who are finalizing plans for the annual St. Valentine's day card party and dessert luncheon to be held at the V.F.W. clubhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. Mrs. Frank Steffek beads the committee, with Mrs. Paul Jessup as co-chairman.
