The games that were played were cage ball, ping pong, volley ball, aerial darts and shuffle board. Hie members and their mothers were divided up on color teams. After the games, the girls and their mothers were entertained by the G.A.A. board. The washtub band played 'Sweet Lorraine" in Miss Franz's honor and there was a skit .about the student leaders and their whistles. The band was ^conducted by Carol Schuh. Carl had very l i t t l e trouble as he won 7-0. In his second match though, Carl's opponent was Larry Jackel of Crown, who Was seeded second. But being determined to win, Carl moved in for the takedown and later an escape to win 3 - 2. In the championship match, Tyler North of Crystal Lake, the boy seeded first, wrestled Carl. Again excellent moves and agility showed that he was better as he won 6-2. Then at 180 - lb., Jim Laursen, who was seeded first, took on M. Dzierzbicki of Cary - Grove. Jim wrestled hard though as he won 7 - 2. In his second match Jim was pitted against Glenn Guerra of Barrington. Plentiful takedowns and near falls paved the way to his 19 - 1 victory. Finally, in the championship match, he wrestled Bill Kennon of Crystal Lake. Jim got careless though and his opponent got the takedown and a predicament. But determination to win helped Jim to come back and tie the score and then pin his opponent at 5:57 in the match. TAKE SECONDS In the 103 - lb. class, Terry wrestled Harold Busch of Barrington in his first match. Quick moves earned him his 7 -1 victory. In his second bout of the evening, he wrestled Jim Hartke of Gary-Grove. Neither boy got the takedown, but Terry received points on penalties , from his opponent to Win 5-0. In the championship match, Jim Kiss of Dundee was Terry's opponent. Terry got the takedown but Kiss reversed him toward the end of the period. Then he hurt his back, but continued. Later Kiss escaped, so Terry lost 3-2. At 138 - lb. Tom Baur wrestled George Wilsey of Dundee. Tom dominated the first half of the match, and his opponent the other half, as he won 15-10. In his second bout Tom wrestled Bob Wellington of Barrington. Neither boy got a takedown or a reversal, but in the second period Tom escaped, and then held on to win 2-0. In the championship match, Tom took on Dave Sims of Wauconda. Sims got the takedown and reversal in the first and second periods. Tom couldn't hold him though as he lost the battle 9-0. Other wrestlers in the tournament who took thirds were: Don Voight who beat Rich Zulpo of Crown 6-3, Sam Lament who pinned Steve Block of Wauconda in 3:00, and Larry Young who defeated Bob Gillilan of Dundee 7-4. The Sidewinders will play a game at Crystal Lake Fieldhouse on Feb. 26,1967 at 1:30 p.m. By BERT HAGEMANN Warrior fans rejoice, it finally happened; McHenry won its first conference game of Hie season this past weekend on the home hardwood. The victim was Crystal Lake by a score of 70-67. This game followed on the heels of a 76-1>l handed the Warriors on the previous night by the Broncos of Barrington. Let's take the bad things first, and then get to the good news. The Big Red from Barrington, led by the long distance bombing of John English, turned on a fourth quarter scoring barrage tp outdistance the orange and black in a game which was actually much closer than the score indicated. With three and a half minutes remaining in the contest, the Warriors were trailing by nine, and seemed ready tp make a spurt which they hai been threatening to do all evening. However, two ball handling miscues got the Barrington express rolling, and the Warriors were smothered by a flurry of late game buckets by a well balanced, big Barrington quintet. Wheelchair Basketball is a (hard hitting, fast moving sport, played in accordance with the N.C.A.A. rules, with very few exceptions. Any individual who, because of permanently severe leg disability, or paralysis of the lower portion of his body, and who would be denied the opportunity to play basketball, weire it not for the wheelchair adaption, is elibible. The men who compete in this sport, play with all the enthusiasm and competitive agressiveness,that can be found in any other leading sport in the country today. Those readers who are fortunate enough to attend the game Sunday, will be amazed at the agility, ability and dexterity of the players. This game is proof enough that a handicap is only as big as one makes it. Also featured at the game Sunday, will be the Viscount Drum and Bugle Corps of McHenry. Plus, a challenge match of Wheelchair Basketball will be played at half time between the McHenry Kiawanis Club and the Marengo Rescue Squad. The gentlemen of these two opposing teams, may be hampered by having to play the game in wheelchairs; however, we are sure that the small inconvenience such as a wheelchair, could not possibly hinder the ability of these outstanding sportsmen. TO THE RESCUE To say the least, in as much as the Rescue Squad already will be there, we foresee no great calamity. All in all, the show Sunday should be one of excitement, good fellowship, and outstanding fun.. Your Cerebral Palsy Group has been so active, in helping the children affected with this disease, to prepare for adult life, by using the abilities they do possess, to the maximum. And, they also wish to expose the youngsters with Cerebral Palsy to experiences, which will help gain, social know how and poise. This lack of glass power, coupled with 16 ball handling turnovers spelled defeat for a Warrior club which still managed to look sharper than they had in previous outings. PRESS THROWS 'EM On Saturday night the half filled McHenry gym was the scene of three quarters of Warrior ineptitude once more. Trailing by as much as 18 points midway through the third ouarter Warrior fans were once again beginning to yawn and think of happier days gone by. At this point in the ball eame however, the torrid Crystal Lake shootirig, led by Glen Guss and company went cold and the Lakers started to throw the ball away and take bad shots. This is all the Warriors evidently needed, as they went on a hot streak of their own, with all hands contributing to the scoring effort. With a little over a minute left, McHenry threw up a full court press with only one man over six feet on the floor. The surprised Lakers immediately threw the ball away and fell to pieces in front of an inspired Warrior onslaught. With a slim one point lead and less than a minute remaining, the Warrior stall brought on a Crystal Lake foul and then a technical on the bench. Tom Evans calmly sank the one and one, and the Warriors were awarded the ball out of bounds, from whence they ate up the remaining seconds on the scoreboard clock. BEDLAM REIGNS The bedlam which reigned in the Warrior gym and locker room must have been heard all the way to Libertyville, where the Warriors tangle next week with the hot shooting Cats on their home floor. Jubilant fans swarmed over the floor and coach Glen Anderson to rejoice in a seldom felt festivity of victory. The ability to come back and neverquit highlighted the finest effort of the season by the McHenrffivfev-and perhaps gave the fans a glimmer of hope for flW three remaining conference tiljts before the regional. In sophomore action, Gerald Fain's sophomores bombed the Baby Broncos and smothered the little Lakers in a convincing display of fast break offensive power and sticky man to man defense. My freshmen were taking it on the chin again from Barrington, which extended our current slump and sloppy play to three in a row. Jf you are so inclined to take in a little Warrior action next weekend, you can catch the orange and black at Libertyville on Friday, or home on Saturday againstthe Zee Bees.
