A plan approved by the State of Illinois Division of Highways in the Springfield office for traffic signal lights at the corner of Front street and Elm street was received by the Council and action taken to proceed immediately with engineering and advertising for bids. An ^plication to conduct a tag day on June 24 for the benefit of the Mental Health centefwas approved. The question of expansion of sanitary sewer facilities again came before the Council. With changes now being made in treatment which may do away with polishing ponds, thought is being given to expansion of the present plant. Proposed boundaries for present and future planning have been submitted to Baxter and Woodman, civil and sanitary engineers, and a meeting with their representative, Hal Sundin, is being arranged for early in June. MINOR CRASHES OCCUR. DURING WEEK M AREA Daniel Lange of 3820 W. Idyll Dell road, McHenry, and two passengers escaped with only minor injuries when their south-bound car went out of control and rolled over. Lange told deputies he was approaching the crest of a hill on Barreville road Friday evening when he was blinded by lights of an approaching auto in his lane. He said he swerved to avoid a collision and in doing so, lost control. A young Forest Park man, James Owens, was blamed by sheriff's deputies for an accident last Friday on Rt. 120, west of Lilymoor. Antonio Cagnoni of Highwood told authorities he had slovired for a vehicle making a right turn in front of him onto Crestwood when his car was struck from the rear, sending it into a field. Owens * stated that he was unable to stop in time. SPRING CAMPOREE On May 19, 20 and 21 approximately 500 McHenry county Boy Scouts and their leaders will be encamped near Coral road, south of Marengo. The boys and their leaders will be participating in the annual Kishwaukee district spring camporee. The theme of this year's camporee is "Operation Disaster". HOMEOWNERS. ELECT SEVEN TO JUNIOR COLLEGE BOARD MAY 37 NEW EDUCATION CONCEPT PROPOSED FOR NEW SCHOOL (continued from page 1) used to improve the present high school. Another would be a referendum toincrease thetax rate to meet rising costs in education. George Cone of Scan-Am company was present to demonstrate an inter-com system for the new high school. No action was taken by the board. Also present at the meeting was Civil Defense Director John Shay, who said he felt there was a need for provision in the new school for a tornado or fall-out shelter. One of the architects present said that the basement area, which would accommodate about 700 persons, would be adequate for a tornado shelter. He added that at some future date provisions for food and other necessities might be made to make it suitable for a bomb shelter. ft was announced that about 40 per cent of the foundation for the new school was completed on schedule. Contracts were announced for William Blanke'nhorn, Caroline Lassin , Patricia Lou Bauman, Susan C. Hanley and Margaret Lansing to teach in the high school next fall. It was announced that there will be another showing of the film, "To Touch A Child", on community concept, to be shown Thursday, June 1, at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. A meeting is scheduled for next Monday evening on the bus problem which confronts the board. The Vycitals' son, Gary, received the Dean of Students' award for academic achievement and leadership in the ROTC corps. He was promoted from the rank of cadet major to cadet lieutenant colonel. Gary was one of twenty-five college men in the UJS. se- ^cted to attend the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright Patterson Air Force base, Columbus, Ohio, for twenty-one months in the new field of Systems Analysis Program. The young man also was the recipient of the Distinguished Service award from members of Alpha Kappa Pei, professional business fraternity. HIGHWAY DETOUR Because of bridge deck removal and replacement on Rt. 31, between Ringwood and the intersection of U.S. Rt. 12 and Rt. 31, the highway will be closed to through traffic for duration of construction and only local traffic may use Rt. 31. The detour will be by means of Ringwood road east to south Solon road, then north to Rt. 12, west on Rt. 12 to the intersection of Rt. 12 and Rt. 31. This will be in effect until June 30.
