Stilling were callers in the Arthur Stilling home recently. Mrs. Henry Stilling was entertained in her son's home, James Capptrelli, in Lombard last week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kempfer, Jr., Debbie, Michael, Joseph and Albert of Genoa, ni., Miss Kay Sheen of St. Charles, Frank Kempfer, Sr., of Ringwood, Mr. and Mrs. James Glosson and son, Jimmy, and Mrs. Albert Vales and son, Al, all had dinner out and then returned to the Albert Vales home for the rest of the day and had supper there in honor of Mother's Day. More than forty members and guests from Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Elmhurst, Huntley, Harvard, Gurnee, Algonquin and McHenry were in attendance at the annual spring luncheon of the McHenry County Past Oracles club of the R.N.A., . held at the McHenry Country club Tuesday of last week, May 2, at 1 p.m. A business meeting followed with the newly elected president, Mrs. Edward Justen, of Woodstock presiding and plans were made for their next meeting to be held in Algonquin on June 6. Mrs. G. A. Douglas returned last week from a two weeks visit in the home of her son and wife, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Colliton, in West Hartford, Conn., where she made the acquaintance of a new granddaughter, Carole Anne Collition, the third child and first daughter of the Collitons, was welcomed home by Kenneth, 5, and Charles, 3% Miss Diane Phalin, daughter of Harold Phalin, of Waukegan, a bride-to-be on May 20, was guest of honor at a dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Phalin of Wiimetka at a country club in Wilmette on Sunday May 7. Attending from McHenry were Mrs. Albert Foley, Mrs. Robert Knox, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Phalin, Mrs. George Phalin, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Foley, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Foley and Donald Givens. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Thompson returned last week from an enjoyable trip by plane to Pensacola, Fla., where they visited their son, Roger, and while there saw him commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy. He had the honor of being placed second in a class of fifty-three men. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Saelens of St. Charles were luncheon guests in the Robert Conway home last Wednesday. Mrs. William Walker, Mrs. Howard Nielsen and Mrs. Carl Sima of McHenry Women of . the Moose received their academy of friendship degree at Lockport, on Sunday May 7. Mrs. James West of Itasca called on McHenry relatives Friday. Her aunt, Miss Ann Frisby, returned home with her for a visit. The Charles Hansen family has moved from 3705 W. Waukegan street to the home of her father, Herb Simon, on Richmond road. The place they have vacated is being occupied by the new owners, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon, who have moved from an apartment at 3604 N. Richmond road. Mrs. Robert Conway- and granddaughter, KristiAnn Weyland, were in Chicago last week where they attended a performance of the Stone Camryn Ballet at St. Alphonsus Athenaeum theatre in which Kim Gardner of McHenry took part. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Smalfelt and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brug- JUDGE COONEY SPEAKS TO PARENTS WITHOUT PARTNERS Judge James H. Cooney will be the guest speaker at the May meeting of Parents Without Partners to be held on ' Thursday, May 18. Judge Cooney is the presiding judge for the Family Relations Court in McHenry and Lake counties. P.W. P. members and guests will have a bowling party on Saturday, May 20, at the Crystal Bowl, Rte/ 176 and 31 in Crystal Lake. Everyone planning to attend is to meet there at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, is "Share the Holiday" with the Rolling Meadows P.W.p. group. Members and non-members and their children will meet at 1 p.m. at North park of Barrington Park district, off of Rt. 14. Bring yqur own lunch. Pop and coffee are free. Parents Without Partners, Inc., now has 222 active chapters with over 2,200 members. P.W.P. is an international nonprofit, non-sectarian educational organization devoted to the welfare and interest, of single parents and their children. Anyone is eligible for membership who is a parent and single because of death, divorce or separation. Custody of children is not a factor of eligibility. Maple, McHenry, sun themselves following a dip in the pool at the elegant Balmoral club during a three-day vacation in Nassau, capital of the Bahamas. McHENRY MAN ENTERS WORK IN '67 ART SHOWCASE Weg Thomas, experienced photo-journalist, writer and artist, 1642 N. Riverside drive, McHenry, has entered a selection of his work at the annual "Art Showcase-*--1967", May 20, in Lord's Park, Elgin. The event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women. Mr. Thomas has sold at the well known Wayne Art show, Wayne, 111., and will participate in McHenry's Art Fair in June. He holds a degree in art with Distinction in Creative Writing from Wesleyan university in Middletown, Conn. J AUDUBON WEEK DAY TRIP SET THIS FRIDAY The McHenry county chapter of the Illinois Audubon society will hold a field trip on Friday, May 19, in the Bull Valley area. The spring bird migration is at its peak at this time and many of the 200 species of normal occurrence in this area are passing through in abundance. It is a very exciting time for all nature-lovers and most of the 135 members of the energetic McHenry county chapter of the Illinois Audubon society will attend some of the many events scheduled by the local club or the state society. A field trip was held on Wednesday, May 10, at the estate of the Helmut Bruchmanns. Sixteen members and guests enjoyed the walk arid the good fellowship. Most of those who attended had found it impossible to attend the usual Saturday morning trips, and they enjoyed it so much that plans are being made for more mid-yveek morning hikes. On Friday, May 19, chapter members and guests will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth V. Fiske, 9313 Bull Valley road, and proceed from there through areas of mixed habitat that have been well-scouted by energetic ornithologists on previous trips. Anyone desiring further information should contact Mrs. Robert P. Rosenthal of Crystal Lake or Mrs. Henry Birren of Woodstock. The trip will start promptly at 9 a.m. and conclude before noon. Jesky has been assigned to the United States Army Training center, Armor (USATCA), to Company D, 16 Battalion, of the 4 Basic Combat Training brigade, Ft. Knox, Ky., for his initial eight weeks of military training. Following the completion of his basic training, Pvt. Jesky, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Jesky, of 3017 W. Virginia street, McHenry, will receive at least an additional eight weeks of either advanced instruction or on-thejob training to qualify him in a specialized military skill. Marine Corporal Brian Anderson, son of Mrs. Louse A. Anderson of Route 120, McHenry, was among the more than 10.,000 Marines who prevented a simulated enemy take-over of a small country friendly to the UJS., during amphibious training exercises on the beaches of Camp Pendleton Marine corps base in southern California. Code-named exercise "Alligator Hide", the week-long maneuvers included Marine units from the west coast and Hawaii, as well as Navy transport ships and air squadrons. The fictitious tactical situation dealt with the friendly country of "Mateo" being overrun by the , nearbys country of "Horno". Under treaty agreements, .Mateo requested U.S. assistance to prevent further seizure of territory, and to regain what was lost. With this objective, the Leathernecks went ashore by boat and helicopter, established their beachhead positions, and then moved into the "hostile" areas sweeping them clear of the enemy threat. Completing their mission, the forces moved back to the beaches and out to the transport ships standing offshore. Marine Lance Corporal George H. Moder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moder of 7319 Mohawk drive, Wonder Lake, was promoted to his present rank at DaNang, Vietnam. He received his promotion while a member of the Thirdtbattalion, First Marine regi-t merit, First Marine division^ His promotion was based, oit: time.in service and rank, milt--: tary appearance, and his know- ( ledge of selected military subjects. His unit performs search and destroy missions against the enemy, and pursues a constant effort to win the people to the side of the legitimate government of South Vietnam.
