All-Electric Homes Residents of McHenry County have boosted their use of electricity by 65 per cent in the last ten years. George Marcus, superintendent of Edison's Crystal Lake District, said the increase underscored the rapid growth here. Crystal Lake is one of four headquarters in Edison's Northern Division. The lrl00 square mile division covers parts of Cook and Lake Counties, and half of McHenry County. "Electricity use is a key indicator of actual and potential growth in an area," Marcus said. Average anhual use per residential customer in McHenry County reached 5,800 kilowatthours in 1966. This compared to 3,500 kilawatthours* a decade ago. The sharp rise in electrical demand is attributed to several factors; business expansion, residential development, and heavier reliance on air conditioning and modern electric appliances by customers following the trend toward all-electric living. The popularity of all-electric buildings illustrates this trend. Electric heat has been specified for over 800 residential, commercial and industrial units in the Crystal Lake area. The Crystal Lake headquarters employing over 100 employes serves a 500 square mile territory which includes nearly 30 communities. u Northern Illinois Realty Provides Service Northern Illinois Realty Service, Inc. was formed with the idea of putting "service" into the business of real estate ~ and has continued to add more and more services since its beginning in 1965.
