Hie Installation of the new street lights throughout the area has really put some light on the subject and the most dangerous corners have been lit up very effectively. The weeds have been cut on the easements again and all in all the improvements should create much safer conditions for both drivers and homeowners. All lot owners are still being asked to cut their weeks on their property. If this isn't done soon the pollen season will really be a dilly this year. Sure am glad that we don't have any hay-fever sufferers here. SWIMMING LESSONS The registration for swimming lessons has been closed and the swimming committee is in the process of sorting out the applications into classes. As soon as this job is done the parents will be notified of the time of their children'§ lessons. Lessons will begin on July 24 and will extend through August 4. Miss Mary Sue Weyland will conduct the Red Cross classes under the auspices of the LPPOA. The west beach will be closed to the public during the time while classes are in session. Very quiet around here lately, at least comparatively speaking, with daughter,Cathy vacationing in Skokie with her COM-' sin, Cheryl. She is scheduledto spend a few days with Grandpa and Grandma Humann before returning home to the telephone. Like mother, like daughter, I guess. Anyway, we do miss her. Steve and Beula Hoard are back after a--trip to the east. They spent a day on their way to Massachusetts sight-seeing around Niagara Falls. The next day they continued on to Wilminton, Mass., wherethey stayed with Beula's brother and wife, Ernest and Elouise Seitz. They were taken on the grand tour which included a day in New Hampshire where they walked through the flume at Franconia Notch near White Plains. Another highlight of their trip was a walk on the beach near Cape Ann where they had their first sight of the ocean. Boston was also on the agenda and they had a bird's eye view of the area from the Prudential building which is the highest building in Boston. If the sights were anywhere as beautiful as the pictures show they had a glorious time. A wonderful trip, but home, sweet home. Nedra Eckhart's mom, Mrs. Chamblin, ended her vacation here in great style with the celebration of her eightysecond birthday. She was surprised on Saturday evening by Norb and Murph Kwiatek and Norbie, the Wimmers and Dicky and Jay, and Walter and Marge Haug who came to toast thfe grand occasion with cake and coffee. Another daughter called from Minnesota toaddtothe occasion. Another going away party was held for Jessie Matthews last Thursday. She was treated to a smorgasbord luncheon at a steak house in Crystal Lake, and the gals really made the most of the afternoon. Wishing her bon voyage were Barbara Meurer, Shirley George, Dolores Rogers, Bev Wickenkamp, and Carole Humann. The Matthews family actually moved on Monday and are on their way to their new home in Bowie, Maryland. They sure will be missed but can keep up with all the news of what's going on around here as their Plaindealer will be following them to their new home. Hope they recover soon from all the forties in their honor lately. Sure hope nobody else is going to move soon, we can't take much more of this. A grand reunion was held at the home of Joe and Ka^- Brooks mi Juiy 2 with the visit of their son, Joseph Brooks, who has been living in Peurto Rico for the past two years. He is on his way to California with his family where they will make their new home. Their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gester, and their granddaughter, Mrs. Kay Hawkes, were there as well as assorted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margo and Wally Schaedel and kids are back home with terrific tans and lots of goodies after two weeks on the beach at Miami Beach. The weather was great and the first thing they did on arrival was to take a swim in the ocean. From the sounds of it all they needed were bathing suits. They picked up a lot of unusual shells which they brought home with them. They had such a good time they are already planning on another trip. The Arients had a houseful o^Sunday when the group came out for a day of picnicking and fishing. Grandpa Barta bent everyone's ears with his fishing stories. He caught a 36" muskie in Minong, Wis., last week and is having it mounted to prove the stories. The Wickenkamps had a big chicken dinner last Thursday night when Mr. and Mrs. Lord and their two daughters and Doris Kohen dame for a visit. Penny Veenhuis' mom, Mrs. Luczal, is visiting them for a while. Penny and the two boys, Danny and Randy, went to Oregon for the golden wedding anniversary of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Norwood, who vacationed here last summer. Her mom returned with her and they are really having a good time just being together. T^e Pirates played an exhibition game in McCullom Lake and beat the McCullomites 13-1 on the Fourth of July. The kids had a good time and were thrilled with the big turn-out of fans. Bill and Delia Dralle and Wendy and Gidget are back home after a week's vacation at Princess Arme, Md. They took a jet and as Bill had never flown before he got to sit by the window. He's returned a confirmed plane taker. They stay-" ed with Delia's sister, Marie Orendorff, and her husband, Ray. They landed in Washington where Ray met them and then drove the 150 miles to Princess Anne. The only sightseeing they did in Washington was to fly over the White House! Such a view. The sea-food population was cut down considerably due to Bill's diligent efforts in the local sea-food restaurants. Julie Perry's mom, Mrs. Arthur Mole, is visiting with the Perrys this week and getting acquainted with her granddaughter, Laurie, whom she is meeting for the first time. She makes her home in Fort Lauderdale. She arrived on Monday with Dorothy Myrum and Millie Corder for a luncheon and then they returned to Zion. Julie and Bill had a glorious Fourth weekend helping the Hargis family move to their new home in Atlanta, Ga. After all the work was done they did their share of swimming and enjoyed the beautiful weather while we froze stiff at home. The Cub Scouts of Den 1 had a great field trip on Monday to the McHenry locks wherethey watched the locks in operation and talked with the keeper. They are the biggest small locks in the world and hold a great number of small craft at one time. On the way home they stopped at a drive-in for lunch and revitalized their energy. The Cubs were John and Jeff Bierman, Mark and Chris Rogers, David Wilkens, Jeff Connors and John Meurer. They were accompanied by their Den mother, Barb Meurer, and assistant, Dolores Rogers, and the Den Chief. Alan Meurer. Bill Chadwick is in the intensive care unit at McHenry hospital following a one-car accident Friday evening on Griswold Lake road.
