Tigers Beat Crystal Lake 8-5, Lose To Dundee This past week the Johnsburg Tigers split a pair of games. On Tuesday, July 4, the Tigers defeated Crystal Lake by a score of 8-5. Then on Sunday they lost a tough game to Dundee, with the final score reading 5-2. Against Crystal Lake, the Tigers finally combined a strong hitting attack along with a good pitching effort by Dave Smith. Jim Meyers led the attack with three hits. He was followed closely by Lloyd Smith, Wayne Hiller, and Dave Himpelmann, each of them rapping out two hits. Johnsburg also played a fine defensive game. Altogether, it was, perhaps, the Tiger's best game of the season. On Sunday against Dundee, Johnsburg managed only Ave hits which led to their downfall. There were many situations which called for clutch hits, but the Johnsburg batters weren't able to deliver on this day. The only bright spots in the Johnsburg offense were a two-run home run by Jim Meyers, and a double and single by Hairy May. Dan Sompel pitched well, but did not receive enough hitting support to win the game. The loss set the Tigers record at 4-3 for the season. The game against De- Kalb was canceled due to rain. This Sunday, Johnsburg will travel to Elgin to play Crystal Ball. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30. 5-2 Him Desmond Maves 1 1 0 1 0 0 2 0 1 38 5 6 inters Take Note Of Squirrel Season Being Longer Than Past Years Johnsburg May Cox Hiller Smith L. Rostow, I again ask myself, 'Why does the Office of the President, week in and week out attempt to expose and defend its feeble and inept policies by parading characters like Rostow and Gardner Ackley befor the entire nation?' "Theypersistentlytryto defend the actions of the President and his followers for the indefensible. They try to answer JULY 13, 1967 - PLAIN DEALER -- ^SEE(C . I, PG. 5 such questions as, 'Why, if the Viet Nam war is progressing so satisfactorily, is Untouchable McNamara asking for another 100,000 troops?* Rostow' s answer would satisfy no one beyond a fourth grader. "Why does Gardner Ackley try to bamboozle intelligent voters by trying to justify and defend this Administration's stupid fiscal policies. I fully realize that these high-powered men are paid to do nothing but defend the views and actions of LBJ & Co., but they do make many of us very sick at our hearts, in our minds, and to our stomachs. "While we have much to be grateful for, which we will hear loudly proclaimed next year, it is truly an awful, awful era, government wise. "Sincerely, "Harold P. Owen" there was no parade on our country's birthday. Here we are, the most blessed and richest country in the world, and are too lazy to get out and swing Old Glory in everybody's face, who like it or not, instead of feeling very privileged. "I, for one, can never get. it out of my blood, the way we felt when I was a youngster on our country's freedom's day. So if there will not be a parade and flag waving day in McHenry in 1968 on the Fourth of July, we in my family will have to go where they do. "Isa Braenne" ON PATRIOTISM "Dear Editor: "I am a resident of McHenry more than eleven years and am very proud of my adopted town. "'But this Fourth of July we stayed home and I was very di sappointed and provoked that STREET DANCE In place of the regular Thursday night concert, the McHeiiry Stage Band will feature a threehour street dance as part of the Marine Festival Days actiT vities.
