The runners-up were Miss Bonnie Prouty of Mill Gardens and Miss Colleen Duffy of Wonder Woods. The other contestants were Netti Gabel, Wonder Center; Carolyn Rankin, White Oaks Bay; Kathy Luciano, Wonder View and Pat Sperandio, Wonder View. FIREMEN'S CARNIVAL The carnival which was held this past weekend was a great success. The firemen and the women's auxiliary work hard to put the event on each year and the community made it worth their time and labor. The Kiwanis Club for their meeting of July 31st helped the Bremen clean-up and dismantle the carnival. NATIVITY CHURCH NOTES The Congregational picnic, which is part of the fifteenth anniversary program, will be held Sunday, Auj. 6 at 1 p.m., Camp Augustana, Lake Geneva, Wise. There will be swimming, volleyball and games for the children. Coffee will be provided by the church. BEBILE CHURCH NEWS The congregation has been invited to an open house reception, Sunday, August 6, in honor of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Repke, 6420 Greenwood Road, Ringwood, from 2-4 p.m. NURSING GRADUATE Miss Joy Brabenec, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Brabenec, Wonder Center, graduated Sunday, July 30, from West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park. HARRISON SCHOOL PTANEWS A board meeting was held recently 14 the home of Mrs. George (Gloria) Freund, Svore Hills, to discuss the upcoming programs, the budget and to turn duties over to the new officers: President, Gloria Couglin; Vice-President and Program Chairman, Peggy Mondek; Secretary, Ceil DeWerdt and Treasurer, Phylis Schuster. * MISS MCHENRY COUNTY CONTEST Good luck to Miss Helen Palko as she represents Wonder Lake tonight at th? Miss Mc- Henry County contest finals in Woodstock at the fair grounds. SYMPATHY Our condolences are extended to the family of Mrs. Grace Frodin who passed away July 15 in McHenry hospital. ANNIVERSARY Happy twenty-sixth anniversary to Ed and Beryl Cannon, Shore Hills, on August 9. VISITORS AT THE LAKE The George Street and the Donald Dusthiemer families have opened up their homes and hearts to two young boys for two weeks from the Friendly Town, an inter-faith program of the Chicago City Missionary Society, whose slogan is "Share your Summer joy with a child from the inner city thru Friendly Town". 4-H NEWS The last meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Joseph Sullivan, St. Francis Heights. The pledges were given by Mary Lee Wight. The guest of the day was Barbara Martin. There were several demonstrations: tuna creamette salad, Michelle Dusthiemer; making candles, Mary Kay Wines; pressing seams, Debby Cristy and knitting, Karen Nelson. The group leaves Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m. for Springfield where they will put/on their skit, "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", as they were the winner of the " Sharethe- Fun" contest held earlier this year. They will return to the Lake on Aug. 17. WEDDING Miss Anne Sullivan, Wonder Lake, and Mr. Charles Sowers, Rit^wood were united in marriage Saturday, July 29, in Milwaukee, Wis. Saturday, Aug, 12 at Nativity was guest of honor at two miscellaneous the fixst held in the home of Mrs. Robert (Michelle) Manke, rural Woodstock, with Mrs. John (Karen) Hoyt as co-hostess, Sunday, June 25. The second shower was given by cousins of the groom, Miss Betty Berna, Miss Blanche Keilman and Mrs. Barbara Ebel, on Friday evening, July ^28, in East Dundee. CHRISTENING Steven Matthew Dermont, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dermont, Wonder Woods, was christened Sunday, July 30 at Christ the King. Godparents were an aunt and uncle: George M Freund and Mrs. Christine Dermont. Steven was born July 8 at Woodstock, and has a brother Scott, 2% years old. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.,Harvey Biggers, Wonder Center. KIWANIS CLUB MEETING Members of the Kiwanis Club toured Wonder Lake on a Pontoon boat. The regular meeting was held on the Donovan-Schultz family boat. Phil Kinzer was the skipper. The tour included the complete lake including all the bays. Mrs. Sawko arranged for refreshments on board. Did you notice the new welcome signs. Meyer, Jr., shown comfortably settled in his temporary home south of DaNarig, Vietnam, catching up on the news from home by reading the July 6 issue of the Plaindealer. Zank, 21, son of Chris A. Zank,; 1308 W. Route 120, Mc- He.iry, was awarded a safe driving certificate July 8 while servfiig with the 359th Transportation company in Vietnam. Spec. Zank received the award" for driving military vehicle? over 12,000 miles withno accidents or traffic violations. Sp^c. Zank, a truck driver in the company near An Khe, entered the Armyin January, 1966, and Was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kas.f before arriving overseas last September. He is a 1964 graduate of McHenry High school. His wife, Kathy, lives at 1516 W. Catalpa. Dr. Hayderry Heads Hospital Obstetrics Unit Dr. A. Lee Haydary of Crystal Lake, a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has been newly elected as head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sherman hospital in Elgin. He is well known in this community. During his trip abroad several weeks ago, he toured Germany, Sweden, Italy and the Middle East where he made first hand observations of modern medical techniques as practiced in facilities Oj' those areas. f Among other memberships, Dr. Haydary is a member of the American Medical association. Cadet David C. Spencer, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs." Charles E. Spencer, Route 1, McHenry, received the Army Parachutist Badge July 19 upon completion of the Infantry school's threeweek airborne course at Ft. Benning, Ga. His training, which included five jumps from a C-130 airplane flying 170 miles an hour at an altitude of 1,250 feet, qualified him as a parachutist. He also underwent strenuous physical conditioning. Spencer is attending the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Army Private Peter C. Reiland, 25, son of Peter Reiland, 1615 S. Lilylake road, McHenry, completed an eight-week administration course at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., July 28. He was trained in the preparation of military records Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class Terry F. Hales, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hales of 4905 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, a member of the Attack Squadron fifty-Six (VA-56), has returned to the United States aboard the nuclear attack aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, following an eight-month tour of duty in the Western Pacific as part of the U.S. Seventh fleet. Pilots of VA-56 flew the Navy's A4C "Skyhawk" during 2200 combat missions and dropped nearly five million pounds of ordnance including air-tosurface missiles. Members of VA-56 also participated in the People-to- People Program to promote, better mutual understanding, respect, and good will through direct person-to-person communication between Americans and citizens of other lands.
