This is the third in a series of four summer theater productions being presented at the Opera House this summer as part of the Young People's Summer Theatre program under sponsorship of the Woodstock Fine Arts association. "A Thurber Carnival" is a collection of skits, sketches and blackouts drawn from the most humorous writings of James Thurber. The production promises to be a fun-filled evening for all the family, according to the co-directors. Advance tickets for Aug. 10, 11, and 12 are now on sale at the Woodstock Opera House box office. All of us have a strong sentimental attachment to the old school, many of us having attended it in our youth, and in some cases two or even three generations of our families went to Landmark. To those who might say we are impractical sentimentalists, we answer that we feel there is still room for sentiment in this chaotic jet-age world. We do not want to be obstructionists and trust the Board will not feel we are attempting to fight what they think is a wise decision. On the contrary, most of the signers of this letter are usually in the vanguard of those who work for School Bond issues and other Civic projects. We feel that all progressive communities still make an attempt to preserve their old and honorable structures, such as Chicago's Water Tower, Boston's North Church and Philadelphia's Independence Hall. These are buildings that give communities character and, while the Landmark School certainly doesn't have the historical significance of an Independence Hall, it is important to many of us in McHenry Finally, we understand that the building is still adequate for administrative offices. It would appear that converting Landmark School to an office building would be a practical solution to the Board's problem. We wish to state that we have confidence in the Board and are aware of its problems, but wish to inform the Board that there are numerous local responsible citizens who feel Landmark is more than a heap of masonry to be destroyed by bulldozers.
