Volunteer / id For Cancer Service rogranr Asked Mrs. navern Gregory, service chairman for the American Cancer society in McHenry county, is asking for more volunteer help for the service program. She is being assisted by Mrs. Eleanore Reid, on the county auxiliary board. It is the responsibility of the service chairman to furnish or! locate available equipment, such as beds, wheel chairs, etc., for any cancer victim. She must organize volunteers to transport patients to and from hospitals, where they undergo treatment. This past winter Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Frances Counley helped to transport a patient to and from a Park Ridge hospital for nwny weeks. The local Legion post has given space in its new home for supplies in this area. The Cancer society furnishes numerous types of dressings for patients free of charge. At present, the society is offering service to three patients in McHenry, two in Harvard, one in Marengo, one in Woodstock and one in Cary. Over 6,000 dressings in the past three months were used hy these people. It is also the duty of Mrs. Gregory to organize women's groups, such as church ladies, or individuals to make these dressings. They are very simple to make of old, clean, white goods. The cellucotton used in them is purchased and furnished by the society. In the past three months some of the 6,000 dressings needed were made by the Sonja Pearson women's circle of the Methodist church, by Mrs. Minnie Husan and by Mrs. Emma Lay. It is imperative that Mrs. Gregory find more who are willing to sew for this cause. She is also asking for clean, old, white goods, such as sheets, shirts and pillow cases. They may be dropped off at the Methodist church, at McHenry Auto Body in Lakeland Park or call Mrs. Frank Gregory for pick-up. Volunteers for simple sewing are also asked to call her.
