SPECIAL AWARD FOR SERVICE Meldora Kozie, daughter of ' Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Kozie, Sr., longtime summer residents of Sunnyside Beach Drive, received an honor at her place of employment on Sept. 1. She was presented with a beautiful diamond watch in celebration of twenty-five years with the company. The pleasant surprise was' a very appropriate luncheon given by her fellow employees honoring the occasion. Meldora was hostess at which time she poured the coffee. She was gifted with several beautiful gifts from the girls in her department which meant very much to her. At a later date she will have breakfast with the company's president and he will relate his personal wishes for continuing good service. LOCAL COUPLES REPEAT WEDDING VOWS On Sept. 2, Trish Weber became Mrs. Jay Sayler in a beautiful service performed in St. John's church. The newly married couple were feted with a reception held in their honor later that day in the Johnsburg Community Club hall. After a short wedding trip, the new 385-1296 Mr. and Mrs. Sayler will take upj*esidence in Oak Park. The new Mr. and Mrs. Fred Durrenberg are now on a camping honeymoon. They departed Saturday evening, several hours after they were married in the Zion Lutheran church in McHenry. A small gathering of immediate relatives and friends was held in. the home of his mother, Mrs. Walter Durrenberg, immediately after the ceremony. The young couple will reside on Hillcrest Place in Jak-Ana Heights upon their return. To these two married cotqjles we wish the very best life has to offer. May all their future dreams materialize. RESIDENT SUFFERS SERIOUS ATTACK Everyone in our area was shocked to learn of the serious heart attack suffered by Ray Smith of 2027 W. Sunnyside Beach Drive. He was stricken while on his job in Chicago this past week. At least a month of confinment faces him so I'm sure he will be looking forward to hearing from any of his friends or neighbors out here. BACK FROM VACATIONING Harvey and Wanda Palmer, along with their daughter, Linda and son Rocky, took their vacation and traveled wast through the Rockies and Wyoming. They stopped off in Grand Lake, Colo., for a few days of sightseeing. The. day they arrived, Mrs. Jepsen's great-niece had just returned home from a trip to Denmark. She had many things of interest to tell all especially about her visits with Mrs. Jepsen's sisters and brothers over there. The Jepsens and the Christiansens also made a stop at Old Augustine and the Busch Gardens at Tampa. HERE AND THjERE Joyce Pitzen is back at Alverno College in Milwaukee where she is in her third year. Bruce Christiansen drove back to Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday to begin his fourth year at Kansas State University. September is a popular month in the Pechous household. Roger Sr., celebrated his natal day on the ninth, by enjoying dinner out with his family and his father and mother-in-law. Pam has birthday number 12 coming up on the twenty-fourth. Sept. 26 chalks up another birthday celebration for Dorothy Hettermann. And so ends another week. Please be very careful when driving through the school zones. We love the youngsters and want to keep them healthy, do your part, drive safely. Fines were as follows: Patricia E. Church, Crystal Lake, $25 and $5 costs; Earl Betts, 4431 Rt. 31, Ringwood, $35 and $5 costs; Theresa A. Bill, 6004 Mill road, Wonder Lake, $30 and $5 costs; Harold M. Justen, 3609 W. Main street, McHenry, $20 and $5 costs; and Lecil G. Capps, 1611 Pleasant, McHenry , $50 and $5 costs. John A. Larson of Ingleside, on a charge of no valid license after curfew, was fined $10 and $5 costs. MOTHERS SOCIETY MEETS TO PLAN FOR CONVENTION The first meeting of the year for the Christian Mothers Society of St. Peter's parish will be held in the parish hall tonight Thursday, Sept. 14, 8p.m. Final plans for the DCCW convention in Freeport on Sunday, Sept. 24, will be made/Registrations will be taken that night. A social evening will follow with the playing of cards and bunco. Prizes will be given away. Lunch served^ SCHOOL SAVINGS PROGRAM With the opening of school, children are reminded of the U.S. Savings Stamp program. Today, the school savings program is more important than ever. Our children are growing up in a world of tension and of conflict. The challenges they must face are ever increasing. The school savings program serves not only to teach the habit of thrift but to prepare our young people for some of the responsibilities they have as American citizens. Savings stamps in denominations of 10 cents and 25 cents are on sale at all times in the post office. As pupils fill their albums, which are provided free, they exchange them for U.S. Savings Bonds at their banks. The post office is proud to offer this service to our young people. DEATHS We were sorry to hear of the sudden and untimely death of Elmer "Bussy" Smith jvho died on Sept. 1. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended his bereaved family. He lived in the Spring Grove area for many years where he had made a host of friends who mourn his : passing. Math Mullenbach, 91, of Sta- ' cyville, Iowa, passed away the? past week. Some relatives from this area drove to Stacyville to attend the funeral. He was an uncle of Charles Freund .and Nora Miller. 500 club met at the home of Frankie Shotliff last week. Winners of prizes were Tillie May Mary Klein, Emma May, Minnie Pierce and Evelyn May. Lunch was served-'ljy-the hostess. Membep of her club met at the Home of Tippy Klein in Fox Lake on Thursday night. Pun?h and snax, dessert and coffee were served and gamos of 500 were played. Prizes went to Eva Freund, Luella May and Emma Kattner. Mrs. Evelyn Freund of Antioch was a guest. ATTEND WEDDING The Fred May family and Mrs. Clara Deinlein recently .attended the wedding of Mrs. May's niece, Miss Marilyn Diebold, and Norman White. The ceremony was at Fremont Center and reception at Chevy Chase, Wheeling. Mrs. Deinlein spent several days with her daughter at Fremont Center and also attended the wedding of a nephew Donald Sheehan in Chicago. HOSPITALIZED Mrs. Agnes May underwent surgery at McHenry hospital Saturday morning. Mrs. Mae May has been released from Sherman hospital, Elgin, where she was a patient the past two weeks. WINS FLYING TIME Robert Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Richardson, won free flying time and lessons with an instructor when he took fourth place in an essay contest on aviation history. This contest was held in Hot Springs, Ark., at the twenty-second annual convention of International Flying Farmers. REVOKE DRIVER LICENSES; OTHERS ARE SUSPENDED The office of Secretary of State Paul Powell has announced the revocation of the driver's license of Elmnr Mueller, Jr., of Crystal Lake for driving while intoxicated. Suspensions' were ordered for George Frank of Woodstock, Michael Hathaway of Crystal Lake, Fred Jenssen of Lakein- the-Hjlls, Steven Jones of Marengo, Paul Mason of 5406 Hillside drive and William Moog of 907 Sauk drive, both McHenry, all for three violations; and Gilverto Willarreal of Fox Lake for driving while license or permit was revoked or suspended. Probationary permits have been issuedtoRaymondGleason of 4615 S. Giant Oak, Jeremiah McEvoy of 4215 Crystal Lake road and Donald Scheib of 5107 Rt. 120, all of McHenry. REV. C.F. KERR REJOINS STAFF OF CHILDREN'S HOME Rev. Clifford Redding, executive director of the Woodstock Children's home, has announced today that Rev. Clarence F. Kerr, a long time Woodstock minister, is again associated with the Woodstock Children's home. As administrative assistant, Rev. Kerr will be in charge of the home's public relations in McHenry county. Rev, Redding also stated that the home is pleased to have Rev. Kerr back again on its staff. He will perform similar duties in the area in which he previously served. Rev. Kerr recently completed forty-six years in the pastoral ministry, thirty-six of which were with Baptist churches in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Montana; and during the past eleven years he has served as assistant, or interim pastor with Presbyterian churches in Woodstock, Ridgefield, Harvard and Marengo. In addition to their church duties, the Kerrs have both participated in various community activities. Rev. Kerr served several years on the Mental HealthboardofMcHenry county, ten years as educational chairman for the McHenry County unit of the American Cancer society, and is presently a member of its board of directors. He is a pastpresident of both the Woodstock and McHenry County Ministerial associations. The Kerrs own their own home at 338 Dacy street in Woodstock, where they are planning to spend their retirement. Organizations in need of a program, and wishing to learn more about the child wfelfare work W.C.H. is doing are advised that Rev. Kerr is available as a speaker at any time. He may be reached by phone at the W.C.H. office or at his home. SAFETY RECORD Secretary of State Paul Powell has commended Illinois motorists for their substantially improved traffic safety record over the Labor Day weekend, pointing out that last year's total of forty-six deaths on the highways for the threeday period was reduced this year to fifteen. "Fifteen deaths are still 15 too many," Mr. Powell said, "but this year's Labor Day weekend record is an encouraging improvement over last year, and I certainly hope Illinois motorists will continue to reduce the number of traffic fatalities. They have shown they can do it."
