One field in the subdivision caught on fire 'in just this way last week and a garage was in jeopardy. Fines are levied when the fire department must be called to put out field fires caused by carelessness. An ounce of prevenmeeting so pass the information on to any girls who will be interested. BOY SCOUT TROOP 459 Eight boys attended the campout and retreat held at Camo Lowden over the weekend. Don Prazak, Chuck C'ampo, Terry Beno, Paul Rogers, Larry Glorch, Ed Chaote, David Wagner and one more boy took part in the activities. WOMAN'S CUB The entertainment and refreshment committee is working real hard planning a terrific meeting for Oct. 8. Each year they outdo themselves with new designs and decorations. Everyone fcad such a good time last year at the Halloween costume party that they decided to have it again and repeat the success. Prizes will be given in different categories for the costumes and from all reports there sure were some different costumes! Ruth Roach, the cake chairr man, will not be calling members for cakes for the meeting and each person is asked to bring six large cookies instead. Dig out your favorite recipes and show off some of your culinary talent. Each lad}' is also asked to bring a trick and treat bag full of Halloween goodies. Do it all up really good and everyone will have a lot of fun at the next meeting. Members should spread the news and invite old members and new neighbors to join in on the fun. Sept. 18, Cub Scout Pack Meeting, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, Boy Scout meeting, 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, Girl Scout Registration night and meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Regular LPPOA Board Meeting, 8 p.m. GIRL SCOUT TROOP 320 The First meeting of the fall scouting season will be held on Sept. 20 at 6:30 sharp at the Community House. Girls who are in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades are eligible for Junior Girl Scouts. This First meeting will also be the registration night lor any new girls who wish to jointhetroop. Parents of all the girls, old and new, are asked to attend the first meeting. Mrs. Bier man and Mrs. Dowell are co-leaders of troop 320. They ask that the girls make every effort to be there on time so that the meeting can begin on time and end at the announced time of 8 p.m. Another meeting follows Girl Scouts so they must be out on schedule. This will lie the only notice given of this CUB SCOUT TROOP 459 The Cub pack meeting will be held on Monday evening, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the community house. Parents are expected to attend with their sons. This is a family affair and all other children of the family are also invited to pack^ meetings. Refreshments will be served and the meeting will be over in time for all youngsters to meet bedtime deadlines. LITTLE LEAGUE BANQUET Reservations and money should be turned in to the managers as soon as possible for the little League banquet to be held on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 8 at the American Legion home. LITTLE LEAGUE DANCE The busy Little League adults are going to have an evening of fun on Sept. 30 at the VFVV. They are sponsoring the annual dance which has always been a very successful affair from all viewpoints. Get your tickets from the managers or at the door but plan on attending and help support the Little League along with a night out and lots of fun. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. BIRTHDAY GREETINGS And all that jazz to the birthday boys and girls of the week. Sept. 14 is a big day with Karen Johnson starting off the list of celebrants. John Becker will be a terrific two and Cathy Knor will be five years old and already a kindergartener. Darlene Gladman will be eleven years old that day. The fifteenth is the big day for Mitchell Przetacznik who will be ten and for Mrs. John Thilges. Frank Bartos celebrates on the sixteenth and Charles Fernstom claims the seventeenth for his day. The nineteenth is the day for cake and candles for Joe and Jerry Selefski who will be fourteen. Bob Townsend and Myron Radloff celebrate on the nineteenth too. The pickle champ, Tee Bujak, has a birthday on the twentieth. ANNIVERSARY WALTZ Congratulations on Sept. 20 to Bev and Jim Wickenkamp who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary. THE BOWLING ALLEY The mixed bowling league formally known as the Lakeland Park Couples Bowling League had their first meet at the new lanes. They are bowling on Saturday evenings at the McHenry Recreation at 10 p.m. They bowled for average last Saturday and half the teams won and the other half lost and that's the way the ball lofts, oops! The next big meet will be on Sept. 23. STORK GRAM A new addition to the Widhalm family made its arrival on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 1 a.m. A baby boy named Michael Raymond was born at Sherman hospital in Elgin to Ray and Judy Widhalm. He weighed a bouncing 8 lb. 4 oz. and measured '1\\ inches long. He has a sister. Lori, who is 22 months old. The maternaigrandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barwig and his paternal grandmother is Mrs. 1-ranees \\ idhalm of Mc-Henry. Congratulations to the whole family on their new arrival. STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK School days are here again, and oh, the bliss of it. Once the troops get out the door with all their belongings, that is. There sure .pre a flock of five year olds though and their moms are really getting the fresh air waiting for the noon bus to arrive each day. Mary Therese Sweeney is boning up for her State boards after completing 1501) hours of training at the American School of'Beauty. Culture in Chicago. She will be going to Springfield to take her evam for the state license in October. She accompanied a classmatt to Springfield recently io act as model while the girl took her exam. Good luck. „• John Henneberg left for Western Illinois University to begin his freshman year after a farewell part^. Hay Barle will be attending college in Chicago. Bill Hates and Brendan Clove are off to Northern Illinois Vniversity and Pete Murphy will begin classes at Elgin college. Linda Crane began another year at Bradley and slowlv but surely all the kids are filtering back to college to start the grind all over again. Get-well wishes are extended to all the people with the bright red noses and lots of kleenex. Both the allergy sufferers and those with the common miserable cold. Jack Davis had surgery fast Friday and Virginia Hodges is back in the hospital. Ed Walsh is still hospitalized and little Richard Schallcr has had surgery recently. He's back home and on the mend. Sounds like the middle of winter with all the colds and flu and other ailments going the rounds. Mr. and Mrs. Medland have moved to a new home in Glen Ellyn where they will be closer to their family. They will be missed by their friends. Nancy Maxon has been seen on television and her voice is coming in clear over the radio lately as she has been doing modelling on the Jim Conway Morning Show. She has been working with Maggie Daly in fashion shows recently too, and we etui all be proud of our local girl who made good! Robert Townsend just returned from a Canadian canoe trip. He went with friends, Len W'inkleman, Joh Noel, and Joe Schulz, • and they really .had a great time in the Superior National forest. They begaji their trip from Ely, Minn., and explored the waterways for eight days before returning home to go back to classes at Northern. Ron and Jackie Creutz and the kids went up to Winneconne for a few days with Ron's folks. They spent most of their time boating in the area which loaded with lakes and rivers. Bill and Eleanor spent the -Labor Day weekend up there too. What a life! Debbie Seheid celebrated her eighth birthday with a lawn party last Saturday afternoon. The weather cooperated and urn -- 4. they had a good time. Her guests were Vanessa and Penny Schaan, Tina Licastro, Meg Humann. Jamie Owens, Chris and Ricky Nowell. Cathy Lauer and Debbie and Dale Franklin and her sister, Carol. The kids feasted on cake and ice cream and played games. Ron and Judy Bierman and their family had their very first camping experience over the Labor Day weekend and it turned out to be a great success. They spent the weekend at the McCormick Creek State Park in Indiana. They rented a trailer and had a ball. There were lots of nature trails in the area and they t6ok lots of movies. Some of the movies should be gems on how not to hike! JoAnn Gladman entertained a group of girls on the occasion of her twelfth birthday'on Sept. 1. They began the pa jama party with a supper featuring foot long hot dogs followed by a scavenger hunt and go-karting. They stopped for ice cream cones on the way back home and finally got to bed in the wee small hours, of the morning. Not that they went to sleep though. The bleary-eyed guests were Sandy Patzke, Cindy Kujak Chris and Cathy Sweeney, Donna and Mary Beth Humann along with Darlene and Debby Gladman. From the sounds of it it'll take the girls till next birthday to recover' John and Dorothea Zimnyand the kids took a two week tour which included New Orleans and the National Drum Corps competition and swung up to tour several eastern states. They had a great time, but there's no place like home. Tee Bujak wins the Green Thumb award for her cucum-. ber which was a mere foot long and measured eight inches in diameter. That's enough cuke for the whole summer. Debbie George celebrated her birthday last Friday night with a supper followed by the^movies. Her guests were Shirley Neurer, Chris Jaenicke, Mary Johnson and Barbara TiffanJS The Rodes were hosts on the Saturday before Labor Day to Rich and Ann Wohnrade and Max and Shirley Koch for a steak fry. Yum. Max and Shirley Koch and family attended the wedding Sat urday of Shirl's sister, Helen Meilahn to Orville Cox. The ceremony took place at St. James church in Maywood atv 11 a.m. John Koch served Mass and read the Epistle. Cindy Melahn and Rita Plante, cousins of the bride, were her attendants. A reception was held at the A.P. Meilahn home in the afternoon. The brother of the bride, Jack Meilahn, entertained the guests with his banjo. On Sunday, Shirley and the kids accompanied Joyce and Howie Lexow to a class reunion held at the Illinois State Beach in Zion for the class of 1956 from Schurz high school in Chicago. That's all folks!! Please drive carefully now that the school kids are waiting for busses. The kids are known to be pretty selfish about the roads, but that doesn't absolve the driver in case of an accident. While waiting on Meadow Lane for the kindergarten bus last Thursday, two boys one on a motorcycle and. one in a car raced down the road so fast that you couldn't even tell who they were.
