Lakeland irk News CJwrole Humann - 885*1605 WOMAN'S CLUB PREPARE FOR COSTUME PARTY Tonight, Thursday, Oct. 5, is the meeting of the Woman's Club at the community house at 8:30 p.m. All members will be there Jn costume and new neighbors and shy old members are invited too. This is an exciting evening in itself as it is pumpkin and turkey night and the costumes will add to the excitement. Judges will be on hand to choose the best in several categories. Last year was really a blast and this year should be even better * Each lady is to bring a bag full of trick and treat goodies to exchange and also six of her favorite cookies for refreshments. So put the kiddies to bed a little early and come mi over to the community house and have a blast. If you're planning on attending the Christmas party bring your dollar along to help the committee get a head start on the plans. FATHER-SON BANQUET The annual banquet for the Lakeland Park Boys Baseball Club is being held this coming Sunday, Oct. 8, at the American Legion home on Ringwood road. Many reservations have been made for the father and son combo and they will be served a delicious roast beef dinner by the Moms. The after dinner speakers this year will be Dr. Carl Bergstrom, superintendent of McHenry schools and a resident of our community, and Paul Morenz, a local athlete of some fame who is leaving soon to serve with the Peace Corps in Korea. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. sharp, so make plans to be there in plenty of time for a delicious hot meal. Any reservation money that hasn't been turned in by now should be given immediately to the manager or to Ron Meurer. AFTER THE BALL IS OVER The committee which was in charge of last week's baseball dance is very appreciative of the fine attendance at the dance and would especially like to thank all the people who worked so hard to make it a success. Tiie chairman of the event was Jerry Rogers, and he deserves a big hand for all his efforts in behalf of the boys* ELECTIONS HELD The Baseball Club held elections at last week's meeting and came up with a fine slate of officers for next seasons little league play., Ron Bierman was elected president with Jack Oakford taking over the veep duties. Les Eckhart returns as treasurer and Bill Mueller also repeats as secretary. Ed Chaote will be player agent for the coming year. The retiring officers are, President, Ron Meurer, Vice-president, Lee Mai and Player Agent, Jim Wichenkamp. These fellows did a fine job during the past year and deserve a large round of applause for their work and for all the time they donated to the boys of the community. GIRL SCOUT TROOP 320 We began our meeting with the flag ceremony and we said the pledge to the flag and the Girl Scout promise, and sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The girls were Doris Dowell, Donna Humann, Mary Ellen Johnson, Veronica Bierman, Susan McMillian, and Linda Apel. Treats were served by Mrs. Bierman and then we all learned everybody's names. The fifth graders who are Cathy Meuller, Mary Beth Humann, and Cindy Kamp put on skits <» the Girl Scout laws. The old sixth graders put on a skit on what the girls do in a patrol meeting. Registration forms and money are due next week. The meetings will always be held on Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30. Cathy Mueller and Mary Ellen Johnson led games and we played Ruth and Jacob and Fruit Basket Upset. The meeting was closed with the flag ceremony , Taps and the friendship circle. Please mark your uniform and put ir price on it. Tjhank you. BROWNIE TROOP 464 The Brownies had their first. meeting of the new season last week with a group of new faces and some of the old. They learned the three-B's of Brownies and introduced to some of the ceremonies and ways of Brownie Scouting. The girls made name tags and sang the Brownie Smile Song and played games. Registration forms are being sent home this week and should be filled out and returned with a dollar at the next meeting. Investiture has been tentatively set for Nov. 7. This is the day that the new girls can begin wearing their Brownie uniforms. BOY SCOUT TROOP 459 Parents night was held last Tuesday night at the meeting. The troop had a flashlight ceremony and each boy said a Boy Scout law and gave the meaning. A Court of Honor was held and the Tenderfoot badge was given to Kurt Blake, Ed Chaote, Larry Glorch, Paul Rogers and Dave Wagner. Steve Jaenicke received the Second Class Award and First Class was awarded to Don Prazak who is the first boy to earn the award since the troop has been reactivated. Following the awards Terry Beno gave a talk on the Tote n' Chip which was an explanation of axe handling. Demonstrations were given on camp fires and their various uses and on First Aid Skills. Hie district Camporee will be on Oct. 13 through 15 with more information later on. CUB SCOUT PACK 459 This is just a reminder of Pack Nite on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. This is a family affair for the parents and brothers and sisters of the Cubs too. All cubs and other children are to come in costume for the evening which will be a Halloween party. Oct. 24 is the night for the committee meeting. Den 1 has been very busy.. Last Saturday they went to pick apples in an orchard near Richmond and had a sample of cider while they were there. They even managed to bring home a few but sure did get their fill for the day anyway. Den 3 is busily working on a skit for pack nite* THE BOWLING ALLEY Standings for the Couple league are up to date with the Ringers and Jim's team tied for first place with 7-1. The Set-ter? are in third with 6-2 and the Untouchables fourth with 5-3. The Mamas and the Papas are fifth with 4-4 and the Top Cats and the No Names fighting for sixth with 3% wins apiece and 4% losses. The Fugitives and the Sociable are neck and neck with 3-5 for eighth and a three way tie for tenth position between the 3J*s and a B, the Alley Oops and Georges with 2-6 each. Leading the. men with high scratch series in Marv George with" 548 and in high series with handicap it's John Johnson with 617. Joan Apel leads the gals with a high scratch series of 486 and Maureen Johnson has high series with handicap sewed up for a while with a 589. So the season is off to a rousing start. On Saturday, Oct. 7, the lineup will be as follows: on alleys one and two it will be the Ringers vs. the Sociables, three and four will have the Set-ters and the Mamas and the Papas, five and six will see the Top Cats vs. the Alley Oops and seven and eight is the Untouchables vs. the No Names. Nine and ten will be the Fugitives vs. the Georges and Jim's and the 3J*s and a B will fight it out on eleven and twelve. Virginia Hodges will be spending her birthday in the hospital and could use some good cheer. She is at St. Clara's hospital in Monroe, Wis. Susie Wickenkamp and David Wilkens celebrate their eighth birthdays on the ninth and Janet Weber will be three. Debbie McCarthy will be fourteen. John Johnson adds another year on the tenth and Mike Jensen and Jim Miskoyic both have birthdays on that day too. Congrats to all. ANNIVERSARY WALTZ That ever-lovin' couple Dolores and Jerry Rogers will celebrate another year of connubial bliss on Oct. 6 bringing the total to sixteen. Delia and. Bob Kroening and neighbors, Lil and Chuck Benes, all share the seventh as their wedding anniversary day and both couples are celebrating seventeen years of togetherness. They're really making hay while the sun shines. Quite a few of the couples attended the dance on Saturday night and they really had^ a ball. The music as usual was very danceable. Several cocktail parties preceded the affair and really got it off to a grand beginning. Jane Boeldt was released from McHenry hospital on Sunday and was taken home by ambulance. The Boeldt family was in an automobile accident several weeks ago. The rest of the family is in pretty good shape and happily all are together again. Steve George has a few stitches on his finger after injuring it during a football game last week. Those Warrior football games are really drawing the crowd from Lakeland Park, which isn't too surprising seeing as several fellows on the team are neighbors. Jim Laursen and George Piccolo have seen quite a bit of action in the Varsity team and quite a few of the kids are playing. A birthday party was held at the Meurer home on Sunday for Barb's dad, Mr. Miller of Lombard. Thirteen kids and nineteen adults enjoyed the delicious Sunday dinner followed by a basketball game between the men and the kids. They really needed the exercise too. , The Bottaris are going to frame their phone bill when it comes with all of Ray's collect calls from Loras. Hope he isn't calling for money! Shir'ey Hitft held a demonstration at their home on Friday evening. Attervijing were Carle Owens, Vickey BOttari, Ruth Roach, Pat Scheid, Dolly Nowell, Judy Biarker, Sharon W9hlert, Jackie Creutz, Penny Veenhuis, Dotty Thurlwell, Shirley Stokes, Laverne and Dorothy Schneider, Jan Fabry and Donna Stoltz. The gals had a good time looking over Christmas goodies andenjbyed the refreshments. Rose and Bill Schabow were the hosts for a turkey dinner for their children who came to Tielp them celebrate their fortythird wedding anniversary last Saturday. Their daughter, Roseanne and Bud Gartner and PG. 3, SEC. 2 - PLA1NPEALER- OCT. 6, 1967 children Janet, Steven and Kurt and son Bill and Doris Schabow and Joanh, Debbie, Bob, and Pat enjoyed Grandma's good cooking. After dinner they were called to the door byjxjuite a racket and found a group of friends there to charivari them from the. back yard. All the noisemakefcs came in for a grand surprise anniversary and house-warming party. They brought a gift and all the refreshments for a good party. The group consisted of five Oeffling couples, Jim and Helen, George and Martha, A1 and Lu, George and Sarah and Frank and Judy. Also Tom and Arlene Fowler. Connie and Don Giacomo, Irv and Helen Wolters, Jim and Dolores Taylor, and John and Bev Kieppel. They had a great time and it really was a. grand $urj>i ise. Breck Dixon celebrated her first birthday last Friday with the help of Grandpa and Grandma Dixon, Marsha and Ronald Tony an and Danny and Tammy. Brothers, Scott and Chris, helped with the festivities and they had a great time breaking balloons and eating cake and coffee. Bill and Julie Perry and Billy and Laurie went into Waukegan on Sunday to help Grandpa Perry celebrate his birthday. Margo and Wally Schaedel celebrated their eleventh wedding anniversary last Saturday night by going out to dinner. Best wishes for many more.
