McCullom Lake Road and Jeff Levesque, 19, the son of Jake Levesque and this reporter are now undergoing basic training in the Marine Corps in San Diego. The young men left Crystal Lake by train at 5 a.m. last Friday morning and spent the day in Chicago, undergoing physicals and mental aptitude tests. One other youth from McHenry, Art Wierich, accompanied his buddies, but was not able to pass the physical exam. According to a report, he may still make the grade. The two lads were sworn in around 5 p.m. and were the transported to CP Hare airport for a plane to the coast. No word was received by Monday morning, by either set of parents, but we are waiting anxiously to hear from them. It will be interesting to hear of their activities, and we know the training is excellent. Young Bill is the fellow who reported a robbery at his place of employment in McHenry, and identified the culprit for the authorities. This hero should certainly prove to be an asset to the Corps.
