Johnson will officiate at last rites held at Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake. Burial will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. If- EDWARD W. MURPHY Edward W. Murphy, 49, of 7604 Beach road, Wonder Lake, was pronounced dead on arrival at McHenry hospital, Tuesday, Oct. 3, about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. In poor health for several years, his death was attributed to a heart attack. Mf; Murphy was born in Chicago May 8, 1918, and lived in Wonder Lake for twenty-one years, coming here from Chicago. He had been a purchasing agent for the Sparkler Mfg. Corp., formerly of North Chicago and now of Texas, until his retirement because of poor health. Hie deceased was a member of Fox River Post, No. 4600, American Legion Post 491, Woodstock Moose Lodge and McHenry Lodge, No. 158, AF & AM, which will conduct Masonic services Thursday at 8 p.m. Survivors are his wife, Lorraine W.; a son, Dennis, at home; his mother, Rose Grace Murphy, of Wonder Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Gladys)Stuedemann of Wheaton and Mrs. Arthur (Delores) Kunkel, of Napa, Calif., and a brother, Elmer R. of Napa, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer R. Murphy. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home until 2o'clock Friday afternoon, LAURA LANDWER Graveside service were conducted Tuesday at Evergreen cemetery, Barrington, for Mrs. Alfred (Laura) Landwer, 86, of Santa Barbara, Calif., a former McHenry resident who died Saturday, Sept. 30, while visiting in Juneau, Alaska. Rev. Samuel Batt of the Salem United Brethren church of Barrington, officiated. Mrs. Landwer was born July 5, 1881, in Barrington Center. She and her husband resided on Main street during the time he was engaged in the oil business in McHenry. Surviving are her husband, Alfred; three brothers, Samuel Homuth, Walter Homuth and Herbert Homuth; and two sisters, Edna Humuth and Jennie Rieke. River Terrace drive, McHenry, representing the Department of Revenue, Springfield. Making plans for the 12th Congressional District Women's Republican club's fall luncheon at Tally Ho Country club on Monday, Oct. 16, are (left to right) Mrs. Dorothy McEachren, McHenry; Mrs. James McCauley, Harvard, All women interested in good government are invited to attend the 12th Congressional District Women's Republican club's annual fall luncheon at Tally Ho Country club(Route45 west of Half Day) on Monday, Oct. 16. Social hour will be at 11 a.m. and luncheon at 12:39. Timothy P. Sheehan, widely known chairman of the Republican Central committee of Cook county, will speak on the subject, "RepublicanOpportunities" . Mr. Sheehan was a member of the United States Congress from 1950 to 1958 and has been active in political circles since that date and is well qualified to give valuable (standing); Mrs. Henry Nell, McHenry; and Mrs. Adeline Geo-Karis Lambros, president of the club. McHENRY CLUB ASKS SUPPORT OF LIONS CANDY DAY Lions CANDY DAY for the BLIND in Illinois is an annual traditional event. Members of the McHenry Lions club, their wives and families will work hard to raise substantial funds on Friday, Oct. 7. They will be "giving away" Lions candy rolls in exchange for contributions for their comprehensive program to aid the blind and the visually haidicapped. Because of enthusiastic support for this program, Lions clubs' CANDY DAY for the BLIND has helped to: 1. - Provide free education to thousands of blintl persons through the services of the Hadley School for the Blind. 2.-Train 323 Leader Dog teams which have given mobilization to blind personsthroughout our State, so they may hold a job. 3.-Reach more than 6,000 blind people with Dialogue, Recorded magazine for the blind. (Since the first issue, Dialogue has been read more than60,000 times.) 4.-Set up Glaucoma Clinics, give eye tests, make gifts of braille writers, typewriters, rtape recorders and white canes. 5.-Send 300 Visually Handicapped children to Illinois Camp Lions as guests of Lions clubs, from all over the state. Countless other activities' have been sponsored by local Lions clubs to aid the Visually handicapped, through LIONS CANDY DAY receipts. The public can be of great assistance by contributing $5, $10, or more, to underwrite the cost of a case of candy that is to given away. All money collected is used for blind aid. There are no club administration costs. ENGINEERING STUDENT Dennis J. Freund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Freund, 3914 N . Richmond road, McHenry, a graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock, has enrolled for the fall quarter at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. MARTHA HERRMANN Mrs. Martha Herrmann, 82, died in her Downers Grove home Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30. She was well known throughout the Chain O* Lakes region, where she was a frequent visitor for many years. Mrs. Herrmann was the mother of Mrs. James A. (Annette) Schmit of 406 Rand road, Lakemoor. She was the former music teacher of piano, accordion and zither, a member of the Chicago Zither club and of the all-zither orchestra. Mrs. Herrmann also was block captain with the U.S. Civil Defense corps during World War n. Last rites were held Tuesday from St. Mary's church, Downers Grove, with burial in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. When the Declaration of Independence was signed, the work-week of the average American was 90 hours. By end of Civil War, it had dropped to 70, by 1900, to a mere 60. Now, a 40 hour week is common. The big question has man used his extra 40 to 50 hours per week as profitably as he could have?? Den Mothers Needed For Area Pack Den mothers are needed by Cub Scout Pack 145 of Wondeo « Lake in order, that the Scout program may be carried out for the large number of interested boys. Any boy in the third grade of school may now register in the program as a Cub Scout. L, Just, vice-chairman, will give a report on suggested changes. The election of officers will be held at this meeting. Quincannon of Harvard, Mrs. Daniel Vetter of Highland Park, Miss Eva Palmer of Ingleside, Mrs. C. Wolcott Henry and Mrs. Ross Siragusa of Lake Forest, Mrs. Irving Enevold of Libertyville, Mrs. Dorothy Miller and Mrs. Henry Nell of McHenry, and Mrs. Gordon Clavey of Mundelein.
