-• V-"" > HOLIDAY HILLS NEWS INEZ YOUNG 386-467* CUB SCOUTS PRESENT SKIT AT PACK MEETING Cub Scout Pack 458 wishes to apologize for the mix up in dates for the November Pack meeting. Orginally scheduled for Nov. 29, the date had to be changed to the twenty-seventh of November , at the last minute. We are sorry if any one was inconvenienced. The, Pack meeting was held on Nov. 27 at the V.F.W. hall in McHenry, and the attendance was almost 100 percent. Only one family was absent, and this was due to illness. We are well pleased that this much interest was shown and feel that if this is any indication, Pack 458 will have one of its better years. The boys of den 1 gave a hilarious skit about the landing of the pilgrims on Plymouth Rock, way back when. John Alden stepped "ashore and asked Chief Big Eagle, "Beg your pardon old boy, but could you show^i8^to_H^mo^_R^k^_ Big Eagle replied, "You're standing on it," Small Wolf commented to Miles Stkndish, "You'll like it here after you get used to it. We have lots of fun." Miles < Standish, "Qh, really?" "Certainly", replied Small Wolf, "You've heard of Indian Clubs." The boys of den 2 did some really fine craft work in a display for the season's theme. There were several maps of the continents carved and sawn out of pieces of wood; a teepee, an Indian and the Mayflower in full sail. The^guest for the evening, Mike Huntly of the Kishwaukee district, showed an interesting slide film on the various aspects of cub scouting and parent participation in the activities of the unit. He also gave a fine talk on the rewards that are received in the adult activities in scouting. In fact, it was so well received that we welcome into the Pack the following adults: Mr^i Nancy Christy, den motheffMrs. Mary Mullins, den mother, and Mrs. MCHENRY SHORES BERNICE WILSON 885-4380 SHORES CHILDREN WILL BE VISITED BY SANTA CLAUS I received a letter from Santa this morning reporting that he will be coming to the subdivision on Saturday, Dec. 23 sometime in the afternoon and will visit each home that has a child under 12 years of age with a gift. Jack Emerson, committee member. This is indeed encouraging, and with the addition of the new den mothers, we will be able to accept more mothers and fathers of eight year old boys and older. Of course, when the parents join, the boy is entitled to join also. We must stress this family participation, because the family is the backbone of the scout organization. After the skits and guest speaker, a number of the boys were awarded badges and pins. They are as follows: Billy Mahon, Wolf badge and Gold Arrow, Keith Teuber - L0in badge, Glen Exline-Bearbac Gold Arrow and seven Silirer arrows. The following boys/received their Bobcat pins:/Kurt Teuber, John Emerson,/Tom Hughes, Tim Hughes, Anthony Christy, Jim Mullins Ricky Connell. This is the first Cub Scout award and the pin must be worn upside down untii after the boy has done his first good deed. Winning these awards is not strictly up to the boy, he must be helped by his mother or father and the more help and encouragement he received, the more rapidly he will advance. Refreshments were enjoyed by all after the meeting and Pm told there wasn't enough left over to feed a mouse. Coming events are the Blue and Gold dinner, the Pinewood Derby, and possibly a space derby.
