FEB. 7, 1969- PLANDEALER- PG. 7 Compassion Tour Group It COMPASSION, Incorporated, a Christian missionary organization supporting more than 22,000 boys and girls in Korea, India, Indonesia and Haiti is bringing a group of six Korean children to the United States during this winter and spring. This Korean Tour group will appear before nearly one hundred church congregations and civic grolips throughout the United States and Canada. Locally, the group will be at Evangelical- Free church, Crystal Lake, on Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. COMPASSION is one of the largest works of its kind anywhere. The ministry to children began during the Korean war when the late Rev. Everett F. Swanson was preaching to the troops in Korea. As he observed the great need among the children of that land - homeless little waifs begging for food - he. determined to help. From a small beginning of just one home in 1952, COMPASSION now operates approximately 180 orphanage • homes in Korea, India, Indonesia and Haiti. The Tour group children will present a living testimony of the great work being done by COMPASSION. They will be accompanied by a talented young adult Korean Christian, and Miriam Swanson, wife of COMPASSION'S founder. This team brings a stirring missionary presentation and challenge from one of the world's most active mission fields, Korea. The children sing, recite scripture, and pantomime Korean folk stories. Mrs. Swanson knows and explains the ministry of COMPASSION in an interesting and heart-warming way. WONDER LAKE GAIL WILLIAMS 653-5371 DRUG PROBLEMS DISCUSSED AT WOMAN'S CLUB The Women's Club of Wonder Lake is sponsoring a series of meetings on drugs. Mrs. Grant P. Ernst is the legislative chairman in charge. The first meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. at Greenwood school. Lt. Hemingson of the Barrington Police department will be the speaker for the evening. The public and teenagers are encouraged and invited to attend. HOSPITALIZED William Wanland, Mrs. Marcella Parker, Mrs. Elizabette Wagner, Arthur Medrow, Mrs. Edna Flott and Billie Williams were admitted to Woodstock hospital this past week. Mrs. Margaret Mueller, Miss Kathleen Lavin, Robert Gafford, Chris Boettcher, John Strike, John Golik and Miss Karoline Lerch were admitted to McHenry hospital this past week. Mrs. Leonard Crago was admitted to Harvard hospital during the week, ELECTED SECRETARYTREASURER Mrs. Clarence (Genevieve) Hummel, Indian Ridge, was elected secretary-treasurer of the McHenry County Deputy Sheriff's Association whose meeting was held this past week at the American Legion in McHenry. HOSPITAL GIVES DEVELOPMENT PLAN AS INITIAL GOAL Development of final plans for the expansion program at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County is the immediate goal of the board of directors. Association members gave solid support to the proposal last week, authorizing the board to borrow up to $1% million for the most ambitious construction program ever undertaken by the 54-year-old hospital at -Woodstock. " We hope to finalize plans and let them out for bids this spring so construction can start later this yeaiy Kenneth Schuh, reelected president of the association, said. "Architects estimate it will take about 18 months to complete the building program after it begins. This would mean we would have the thirty-four new beds and other facilities ready by early 1971." However, much must be achieved before that becomes a reality. The source of the money - somewhere between $1 to $1% million - must be located. Details discussed for months must now crystalize into final plans so the architects, Ganster and Hennighausen, can prepare those final working drawings. . At the annual meeting, attended by more than 350 people last week, Schuh outlined the board's search for the best way to provide responsible health care to a growing population area in McHenry county. Demand for more facilities made it mandatory for the board to reach a decision concerning how it can best serve the area. The hospital staff has been struggling without adequate laboratory space, recovery rooms, intensive care facWties and storage areas too long, he asserted. The decision to expand at the present site in a long-range three-stage program was made with the conviction that" Memorial hospital is the best place for all people in the area to come for care and help--not only Woodstock, for we are still a county-wide hospital." Added Schuh, "As far as we are concerned, a first class county hospital is a reality now for all who will accept it." The first stage approved at the annual meeting last week, includes thirty-four new patient beds in private or semi-private rooms. The intensive care unit and a recovery room for post surgical patients will be located on the first floor. Larger facilities for the Women's Auxiliary Snack Bar are included. A new physical therapy and a new central supply will be on the third floor. Added space for x-ray, laboratory, medical records, kitchen and business offices are contemplated. An additional elevator will be installed. "More rooms will cQme about with an all-new fourth floor on the West Wing and completion of the present third floor.
