Members recall that last year's successful undertaking was held during a severe storm which left many homes -- and the clubhouse -- without electricity until 3 o'clock in the morning. However, it failed to daunt the party spirit of the many who attended. This year, Post 491 is planning to have several Green Garter parties. The entertainment they offer provides something for everyone. Featured is dixieland music which may be enjoyed on the dance floor or from the sidelines. Song sheets will be on the tables and Judy Hamilton will lead the audience in several sing-alongs. Straw hats, green garters and pitchers of beer will be available in the tradition of the New Orleans establishment after which the Green Garter is patterned. The post invites everyone to this event at the Legion's "home" on Ringwood road. is holding this Saturday night. An arrow points to the clubhouse where the event will be held. Seems t' me that there's somethin' wrong wi' the economy when women have t' leave their youngun's, t' go to work, in order t' feed them properly, when they xhave a hard-workin' man aboutvthe house. I never thought Pd see the day when folks werepaid sech high wages. Seems like the dollar ain't worth very much, if it takes so man^' o* them t' take care of a family, as it does these days. When wages go up, prices go up, and when it keeps up fer some time, we git inter real trouble, and there jest don't seem t' be no way o' backtrackin' t' an even keel again. Seems like things won't ever git into balance again, and that's bad, I kin tell ye. One thing is, folks want so much these days. In the homes there's the need, it seems fer all the latest gadgets, and the furniture wears out before ye know it. In my day, we made things last, and a respect fer everything wuz a part o' our bringin' up. Nowadays, the younguns seem t'. have the idee that there's alluis more, where the first came from. It may sound funny, but all this has to do with the inflated state o* our economy. It jest don't appear f be a> healthy sitiation, t' this old Pamela McHardy Joins Carroll's Scroll Society Scroll, the senior women's honorary society at Carroll college, recently tapped for membership seven students and one faculty member. They were chosen on the basis of having been outstanding in scholarship loyalty, leadership and service. Each student has earned above a 2.8 overall average (on a 4.0 basis), has served the college faithfully and proved her capacity as a leader of today with promise of future, leadership. Among those who were tapped was Pamela McHardy, 2610 No. Sequoia drive, McHenry. lady. The government sort & set the pace, a spendin' money like wildfire, until billions o* the tax-payers dollars have gone up in smoke, and plenty wasted wi' out turnin' a hair. Folks keep a pourin' in the where-wi-all fer all the goin's on, and it jest keeps them t' the grindstone. So, many women go out and find jobs, so that their men kin have a little time fer their families. There ain't enough jobs fer all the men and women, too. A few years ago, a young feller got a job t' help himself through high school. Nowadays there jest ain't jobs like that t' be had an' the kids have time on their hands and git inter mischief. These are the younguns who make good pawns fer the drug peddlers, and trouble-makers. I cain't know what ter do about it, but if s about time someone did.
