" This is our first campaign for dystrophy in McCullom Lake," Mrs. McKim said, "And we feel it will be a success." A campaign like this not only raises money to help our dystrophic patients but it also is a good educational program. Through the distribution of health education literature on dystrophy by our volunteers, we" are able to And new patients who need help." Mrs. McKim also announced that anyone wishing to make contribution who hasn't been contacted by their neighborhood volunteer may send a donation directly to Jim Larkin at the McHenry State Bank. The bank is the depository for the campaign receipts. Muscular Dystrophy js a chronic disease which progressively destroys muscle tissue. The majority of m.d. victims are children although anyone can be afflicted regardless of age, sex or race. Neither the cause nor cure of the disease is known. PIONEER RESIDENT SUCCUMBS Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Bennett were held at the Peter Justen and Son Funeral Home yesterday morning. Mrs. Bennett, 84, was dead on arrival at Holy Cross Hospital,\ Chicago, last Sunday. Mrs. Bennett, who had been a resident of the village since the 1930's, was born in War-, sSw, Poland, Aug. 18, 1884. Her husband, Langley, preceded her in death in 1951. « Her survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alice Rush, and two grandchildren. The Rev. Richard Wright of the Wonder Lake Bible church conducted services at 11 a.m. Thursday and burial was in Woodland cemetery. "KRAZY HAT" WINNERS NAMED BY LADIES OF THE LAKE Jean Wade, Petey Schmidt and Ercell Lock were all awarded prizes for having the craziest hats during the Ladies of the Lake meeting, Thursday,, March 14, in the beachhouse. It was a three way tie caused by a secret ballot vote. Gertrude Murphy captured the prize for prettiest hat and Marie Mc Kim's chapeau was voted most original. During the meeting, Ruth Brandt, 4805 W. McCullom Lake Road, was welcomed as a new member. The gals voted to donate $10 to the Salvation Army and they plan to remember shut-ins for Easter. Plans are under way to repaint and repair the bus shelter at Gate 4 and W. Parkview. The women also are giving $25 to the Cullom-Knoll association toward gas and light bills. / ' , Mrs. Elizabeth Gaedden was welcomed as a visitor. During the social hour, Mrs. Gaedden, Ruth Brandt, Irene Sales, Marie McKim, Virginia Karls, Ercell Lock and Irene Johnson captured the awards. MASCULINE BLUEJEANS Julie and Ed Mass of Lake Shore Drive are the ecstatic parents of an adorable girl baby, born Wednesday, March 12, in Sherman hospital, Elgin. Kathleen Ann weighed in at a diminuitive 5 lbs., 6 oz. and measured only 19 inches in length. She met her four "big" brothers on St. Patrick's Day on her arrival home from the hospital. They are Mark--6% Andy--John--4^ and Jimmy-- 3. - Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Gaulke, 420 Fleming Road, Woodstock, and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Mass, Lake Shore Drive, in the village. This is their second grandchild born within 8 days. William Desmond of Woodstock is maternal great-grandfather. STUDENTS BECOME CLASS "TEACHERS" Scores of Western Illinois university students bacame "teachers" in classrooms throughout the state this week. Norman Krong, professor of education and acting assistant dean in the school of education, is coordinating the student teaching. Students are as far north as Chicago, as far south as Pittsfield and they are spread as far as the Quad Cities and Burlington, Iowa, to the west and Decatur to the east. Krong said twelve resident coordinators are supervising in eleven areas in the state. In the schools, students are supervised by resident teachers. Among them is Wayne Hiller, 2204 W. MILK PRICES A minimum order blend price of $4.97 per hundredweight will be paid dairy farmers for Grade A milk delivered during February to plants within Zone 1 of the Chicago regional market order, Pure Milk association has announced.
