A movie about Pokonokah Hills, the Girl Scout camp near Eau Claire, Wis., was shown. Mrs. Althoff and Mrs. Engh showed the movie and told us about the camp. We then sang songs, and had treats. The teams will be bowling on the lanes corresponding to their position. The Nippies and the Klik will meet on l and 2. Bierman's Bombers and the Sock It to Me's will be on 3 and 4. The Crooked Cranes will meet the Mosquitoes on 5 and 6 and the Ten Pins will bowl the 8 Ball on 7 and 8. The Bugs and the Pandas are on 9 and 10 and Jack's Team will bowl the ER-Ki-Gr- Ke on 11 and 12. Sweepers are scheduled for April 5 which according to the schedule is subject to change. No mention has been made of a change so far but will be noted if changed. Art Tiffany, Agnes Prazak and Mary Murphy will celebrate on the twenty-second and Marty Apel will be fourteen on that day also. Bobby Hutt will be eight years old on the twenty-third arid Mike Grothman will be fifteen. Mike Linnane celebrates on the twenty-fourth as does Renee Nickels who will be nine years old. Steve George and John Mueller share the twenty-fifth for their big day. John Licastro Will cut his cake on the twenty-seventh and Ed Oswald will enjoy his in his new home in Decatur. Many happy returns of the day to all of you. STORK GRAM A beautiful daughter was born to. Bud and Cindy Druml on Friday, March 14, at 4:15 a.m. at St. Francis hospital in Evanston. The little gal who was named Deborah Ann weighed 9 lbs. 3% ozs. at birth and measured 21 inches. Her older brother, Eddie, celebrated his first birthday on Tuesday, March 18. The proud grandparents are Ed and Kay Druml and Mr. and Mrs. Don Carter of Clearwater, Fla. Our congratulations to the family on their newest arrival. STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK Guess what? We have news!! Now the big problem is to get in on time. Bill and Lillian Glosson are back from a two week vacation to Fort Worth and Mineral Springs, Texas, where they visited with Charlene and her husband, Bruce Peck. They had a great two weeks just relaxing and catching up on their visiting. On the way home they stopped in Salinas, Kansas, where they visited with Bruce's grandmother. A big welcome to Ron and Sally Glosson who are living at 5010 Shore Drive. A great spot to enjoy the coming summer Iwea the r. The annual dinner for the board members was held last, Saturday evening at a restaurant in Gurnee. Pat McCarthy was the hostess for a farewell coffee last Wednesday for Marge Dent who is moving to Chicago. Irene Koehl, Helen Strandquist and Rose Jorgenson were guests. Alma Siegmund, Helen Strandquist and Lyda Radisch are back after a five week vacation in Florida. The gals drove down with only a slight delay when Lyda broke her shoulder on the second day. This didn't stop them at all and they continued on to Miami where they had an apartment just five blocks from Hialeah racetrack. They visited with Wayne and Cathy Strandquist and family while in Miami and enjoyed boat rides on Biscayne Bay and travelled through the toys to Key West and through the Everglades. They visited with Alma's brother in Port Charlotte and went on up the West Coast to Venice where they visited Lyda's sister. They also spent some time in Sarasota and St. Petersburg and ended their journey in Clearwater where they visited with a friend of Helen's. The weather was gorgeous and they all got good sun tans, which added to their good time. They hit the big snow storm in Indiana on the way back so felt like winter all over again. Glad to say they brought some of the nice weather to us. Our very deepest sympathy is extended to Mary Laurence on the death of her mother last Friday. Burial services were held on Tuesday. While this increase required no congressional action^ substantial criticism has been directed at the Congress for its "inaction" in permitting the automatic increase to become effective. Since the previous salary level was $30,000 per year, the raise amounts to 41 percent. However, if measured in terms of the congressional salary level which existed in 1865, it appears that the new salary level in not disproportionate to that of the salaries in private enterprise. It should be recalled that in 1962 the Congress established a procedure whereby salaries of most federal employees would be based on comparable payments to people doing the same type of work in private enterprise. Then, in 1967, it was decided that Executive, Legislative and Judicial salaries should be measured according to the same criterion. In the 1967 Act, provision was made for a Presidential commission to submit a report every fourth year recommending Executive, Legislative and Judicial salary levels. This commission, headed by Frederick R. Kappel, retired chairman of the board of American Telephone and Telegraph company, included eight other professional, governmental, academic, financial and labor representatives whose recommendations each four years would become effective unless rejected by either House of the Congress. Under the provisions of the law; the President is authorized to accept or scale down salaries as thus recommended. President Johnson accepted the commission's proposals with regard to Executive and Judicial salaries, but at the urging of many Congressmen, he scaled down the recommended salary of members of Congress from $50,000 per annum to the figure of $42,500. At the same time, the President approved the recommended salaries of $60,000 for Cabinet officers, $65,000 for Justices of the Supreme Court, and increases for other Executive and Judicial officers at figures substantially above those which were previously paid. Indeed, Cabinet officers' salaries were increased from $35.000 to $60,000.
