A. located at 4452 W. Idyl Dell Road, McHenry, Illinois 60050 Dated this 13th day of March, A.D. 1969. Vernon W. Kays County Clerk. (Pub. March 21, 28, April 4, 1969) May, 1969, is the claim date for the estate. Claims against said estate should be filed in the Probate office of the Clerk of said Court, County Court' House, Woodstock, Illinois, and copies thereof mailed or delivered to said legal representative and to said attorney. MARGARET CP NEIL Clerk of the Court (Pub. March 28, April 4, 11) H3H Robert Riley of McHenry checks the indicator panel of the UNIVAC 494 data processing system at the Navy Electronics Supply office, Great Lakes, where he is employed as a computer programmer. A second UNIVAC 494 computer will be installed in ESO in May, providing additional real time and batch data processing facilities to aid in managing the Navy's half-billion dollar inventory of electronic material. Aid Navy Program Would you like to buy a washing machine, a stove, or a lawn mower that is ten times as good as the one you now have, yet costs less? Just as the washing machine, the stove, and the lawn mower seem essential equipment to any householder, so the electronic "brain" commonly called a computer is becoming essential to the fast-paced, modern business office. One such business establishment - the Navy Electronics Supply office - has a modern Data Processing division with nine computers and auxiliary equipment valued at seven and a qu rter million dollars. The four-story building at the junction of Green Bay and Buckley roads, Great Lakes, in which these computers are housed, accommodates 1,130 military and civilian employees of ESO, plus four small tenant activities, and is valued at seven million dollars. • INSTANTANEOUSLY The latest equipment in this multi-million dollar complex is a UNIVAC 494 data professing system, which became operational in mid-November, replacing one of two UNIVAC 490 systems. A second UNIVAC 494 will replace the rem£"iing 490 system in Mid-May, and should be operational by June 22, 1969. Captain John H. Garrett, Jr., SC, USN, commanding officer, said the combined value of the two UNTVAC 494 data processing systems will be 5,8 million dollars - or $200,000 less than the two UNIVAC 490 systems, yet they operate internally at a speed of .475 microseconds - approximately ten times as fast as the 4.8 microsecond cycle time of the UNIVAC 490's they are replacing. "An operator can transmit information about an item needed by .a ship to the computer through one of thirty-seven remote control devices in ESO," Capt. Garrett stated. "The computer accepts the information, delves into its main memory, calls for and receives data filed electronically in twelve Fastrand drums which are auxiliary memories to the system, searches through the inventory status records of nineteen reporting activities in the Navy supply system, selects the nearest activity which has an adequate stock of the item, cuts a referral shipment order that goes over the automatic digital network for transmitting logistic messages to the Naval shipyard or supply center selected by the computer to ship the item, prepares a report of status back to the activity that requested the item, and informs the ESO remote control operator of the action taken - all almost instantaneously." McHenry men who are involved in programming, systems analysis or operation of the new UNIVAC 494 data processing system include Robert Riley, 809 W. Barbara lane and Loren Miller, 532, Lake view. Our Servicemen Marine Lance Corporal Jeffry R. Levesque, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Levesque of 3011 N. The unit's combat engineers detect and clear mine fields and destroy enemy caves, tunnels and other fortifications.
