Area Is Ch Audubon Trip Heronry oi ce For A heronry near McHenry is the exciting destination for Mc- Henry county chapter of Illinois Audubon society's field trip Saturday, April 12. When visited two years ago it was the breeding grounds for more than seventy beautiful herons who were observed flying or standing on their nests. More than thirty nests were active, in use for incubating. It is hoped that an even larger number of birds will be seen this time in this area. --duboners' interest which has been a heronry for cranes, phoned Mrs the last thirteen or fourteen years. Members will assemble at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Freund Campers, 1701 W. Rte. 120 (on the south side) 1 Vz miles east of Mc Henry, to drive together from there. Mrs. David Gay of Wonder Lake, Mrs. Russell Switzer of Pistakee Lake and Mrs. Louis Brabec of Crystal Lake are the committee for the day. Frigid temperatures dropping to only 10-15 above zero discouraged the proposed excursion to Jasper-Pulaski state game and fish farm in Indiana on March 29. Members clung to their" plans until the preceding afternoon when it became undeniably evident that it would be too cold for people and birds alike. So whistling swans were the delightful surprise of that Saturday instead of the anticipated sandhill cranes. A farmer, having read publicity about theAuin the Kenneth Fiske of Woodstock, who was to have guided the tour to the place of the big red-foreheaded gray birds, to say that there were large waterfowl of some kind on his pond. Mrs. Fiske therefore led a hardy group, of her fellow birders tothe friendly man's property near Woodstock (his name and address are not given here for protection of the birds). With icy wind numbing their fingers, they focused binoculars and spotting scopes on a pond, Notice To Brides In order to better serve McHenry area brides, the Plaindealer sends wedding forms to all those whose engagements have been announced on our society page and carry a definite date.
