Warrior has his eyes full as PLAINDEALER PHOTO by Bert Hagemann The ever increasing popularity of the McHenry relays was shown this past week as the host school grabbed off a second place finish in a field of record breaking schools. Hie final standings on a bright, warm day were as follows: Kaneland, 92; McHenry, 82; Belvidere, 77; Dundee, 62; Marengo, 62; Geneva, 28; Cary- Grove, 26; Batavia, 7. * Numerous records were broken, two of which we had ourselves. The Warriors set records in the four mile relay, and in the sophomore low hurdle relay. Other records were broken by Geneva in the sophomore sprint medley, the 100 yard dash by Zerby of Kaneland, and the; 880 yard relay and the pole vault. The meet was well attended, and indications are that in the future the meet will grow in prestige as well as number of participants. The track team has a number of underclassmen who make up the squad. Why not try and give a hard working group of athletes your support? OOOOOOOOOOCOOOOOOOOOCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO< Shamrock Ball Team Loses Practice Game To Rockford, 6-3 With a limited crew, the McHenry Shamrock baseball team took off for Rockford last Sunday for a practice game with the Rockford Blackhawks. The McHenry team lost 6-3, but did get some needed practice. As one observer put it, "They left their bats, at home, but these boys cam and will hit." Bill DeCicco hurled shut-out ball for six innings before having to give way to help. Bill is expected to add a lot of strength to the pitching staff. Dave Schaefer made some nifty plays at his second base position as the entire infield looked sharp. ! While the squad number will have to be increased, this will be taken care of when the college boys get home. Manager Tim Farr and others feel that the present group will form a good nucleus for. a strong team. Next . Sunday the Shamrocks travel to Aurora for a game at 2 p.m. Don't forget the home opener on Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. with Skokie furnishing the opposition. Support Local Baseball. Tom Janik went the distance /for McHenry, allowing only two safeties while walking three and striking out six. Janik wis in control all the way, working on a six run cushion given him in the first two innings of play. Camasta started the game with a walk against the Streak ace lefty, McCauley. He took second when the Streaks mi splayed Mike Janik's bunt, and scored when Tom Janik's sacrifice attempt was misplayed and thrown into right field. George, John Smith, and Hurckes all followed with sharp singles, and when Beu replaced McCauley on the hill, McHenry had a 4-0 lead. The Warriors increased their lead in the second when Mike Janik reached on a forceout, and scored on brother Tom's triple to left. Janik then tallied on a sacrifice fly by George to end the scoring until the sixth frame. In the sixth Camasta reached again, this time via a basehit. He was pushed along by Mike Janik's Single and both runners moved up on a wild pitch, and then Camasta scored on another one. Tom Janik's roller to short was bobbled, allowing Mike Janik to score, and this ended the Warrior scoring for the day. The Streaks scored their run in the third on two walks and a single, but it was the only threat they were able to mount in the game. The long' awaited awakening of the sleeping bats took plice or/ the gooey Woodstock turf, and it was a heartening sight to behold. It is Elgin Larkin on our field this Friday in a non-conference tilt, and then it is Woodstock in the first district game next Tuesday on their field. Hope you can make it. CONFERENCE STANDINGS: W 1.
