DON PEASLEY PHOTO Johnsburg Tiger Ball Team To Rise Again This year the Johnsburg Tigers will attempt to rise from the depths of mediocrity. For the past two seasons the Tigers have been floundering around the five-hundred level -- winning a few and losing a few. With a new season about to begin, the Tigers have high hopes that they can reestablish the team to the position of respect it held a few years ago. Around to help make this possible is a new manager, Tony Freund. Tony was a fine player himself for the Tigers a "few" years back, when Johnsburg had one of the finest teams in the area. Now it is hoped that some of his baseball knowledge will rub off on the younger players. Basically, the team will be quite similar to that of last year. The infield will be composed of such fine players as Harry May, DanJamieson,John Hiller. Dave Klapperich, and Jim Meyers. Patrolling the outfield lor Johnsburg will be Wayne Hiller, Mike DeWolfe, Greg Todey and Kick Wakitsch. Dave Himpelmann should prove to be a valuable asset since he can play both infield and outfield positions. Handling the catching duties vvill be the dependable Lloyd Smith, back after a successful season at college. The pitching will be done by Dan Sompel and Tim Freund -- two very steady hurlers. If the Tigers can find one more solid pitching candidate, they should be ready for a good season. Also, Jim Meyers and Tim Freund have been preparing for the season by playing ball this spring for Western Illinois university. Johnsburg will open its season this Sunday, June 1, with a game against the McHenry Shamrocks at McHenry. From what this reporter has heard, the Shamrocks should be an improved ball club also. So, everything points for a good game on Sunday. Why not get out and watch Johnsburg and McHenry renew their long-standing rivalry that has developed over the years. The players will appreciate your attendance. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m. Shop In McHenry Program Bulletin Registration will be held on June 2, 3, & 4th at West Campus Gym for the following activites. I was wondering, maybe "So I Hear*' has just a little deeper feeling in his heart for those Cubs this year? But Pm sure that south side pride wouldn't let you reveal it. Right? All kidding aside, whoever that writer is for "So I Hear" (Mr. Walsh) you do a great job no' matter what the subject is. A Loyal Cub Fan P.S. PLAINDEALER PHOTO Warriors Bow To Cards Again, 5-2 by Bert Hagemann For the second time this season, Dundee lefthander Bob Bolier tied the Warrior bats in knots as the Cards defeated McHenry on a two hit effort, 5-2. Junior right hander Mike Freund experienced a bad first inning when the Carda.scored three runs, and from then on it was catch-up for the light sticking orange and black. The Warriors didn't collect a safety until the sixth inning when TSom Janik singled to center. An infield out moved him along, and John Smith then walked on four straight pitches. Tom Hurckes drove in both runners with a shot to right center, but that was the end of the Warrior scoring for the game. This contest all but ended Warrior hopes for a share of conference leading laurels, tal ball again. We are sure he will give us another number between one and 80 before long. but with a loss to front running Zion-Benton, the Warriors still had a slim chance for a tie. Although Bolier was relatively wild, his sharp breaking curve kept the Warrior bats very silent, while his mates were backing him up with an eight hit attack. So it was conference defeat number five;ior our erstwhile baseballers, all that remained was the Saturday contest. BOX SCORE Warriors, 2 runs; Dundee, 5. Warriors, 2 hits; Dundee, 8.
