iff? ' CASSRJS E. DOWNS GRADUATE -- Cassius Eugene Downs, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Downs of 13972 Melvin avenue, Livonia, Mich., is graduating this month from Berrtley high school and will enter West Point Military academy mi July 1. The young man, son of former local residents, was named in honor of Mrs. Downs' brother, Eugene Weideman, who died in World War n while the family resided in McHenry. In writing to the Plaindealer, Mrs. Downs said: "My son's devotion to his country is in part our legacy to Gene's memory. I hope this love of God and country is as strong in Our younger three sons." MARJORIE HICKS Marjorie Jean Hicks, 63, of 606 Bally street, McHenry Shores, was, pronounced dead on arrival at McHenry hospital Wednesday night, June 4. Mrs. Hicks was born March 3, 1906, in Mobile, Ala. She is survived by Iter husband, Larry; one daughter, Mrs. Jdan (Daniel) Khazzoom of Montreal, Canada; one son, Donald J.# of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren; one brother, Donald M. Hansen of Elmhurst and one sister, Mrs. Edythe (Edward) Ross of Puerto Rico. The body was taken to the Peter M. Jugten & Son funeral home before being donated to science. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 8, at the First United Methodist church, with Rev. Raymond White officiating. WALTER T. STANLEY Walter T. Stanley, 77, 2608 Mid-Oak lane, McHenry, died in McHenry hospital Tuesday evening, June 3. Mr. Stanley was born in Stevens Point, Wis., Jan. 5, 1892. A retired machinist for the Illinois Central Railroad, he was a World War I veteran. Survivors are his wife, Agnes; two sisters, Mys. Justen & Son chapel until Tuesday morning, when a funeral M'i'.s was sung at 10 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Burial was in Cedar Park cemetery, Chicago. JULIA A. DEARBORN Julia A. Dearborn, 85, of 2515 S. Scheid lane, McHenry, died Tuesday night, June 4, in McHenry hospital. Mrs. Dearborn was born April 15, 1884, in New York. The only survivors are her husband, George, and one niece residing in New York. \ The body is resting at the George R. Justen & Son chapel, where services Will be conducted at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. There will be private interment. CORA BURDICK \ Services were held Tuesday morning in Bethany Methodist home for Mrs. Cora Taylor Burdick, 100, a native of Ringwood who died Saturday, May 31, in the home at Morton Grove, where she had resided since 1964. Graveside rites were held at 2 o'clock in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Mrs. Burdick was the daughter of Erasmus and Eunice Taylor, early residents of the county, born Oct. 19, 1868. She was a graduate of Hebron high school with the class of 1888 and of Northern Illlinois State Teachers college. For many years she taught school in McHenry and Kane counties, Highland Park and in Iowa and Colorado. She was among the pioneers to establish night school classes. Her first husband, Clarence ^Benedict, died in 1898. In 1913 she married Herbert Burdick, who died in 1934. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Earle, Newton, Carleton and Milton Taylor. In addition to a tour of the Capitol building provided by Congressman McClory and his staff, Mr. Hecht also enjoyed numerous other attractions in that city and elsewhere in the area.
