Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Davis of Widewater, Alberta, Canada, has announced the marriage of their daughter, Gwendolyn Lea Davis, to Sgt. Leroy M. Smith, son of Mrs. Rena Smith of this city. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the flies of June 11, 1959) Tragedy struck the village of McCullom Lake June 7 when Harry Berry, Jr., drowned while companions were frolicking in the water nearby. The' young lad who had just completed his freshman year in the McHenry high school would have been 16 on July 7. One of McHenry's oldest businesses, operated by the Overton family to serve the driving public of the area, marks its half century in operation this month. It was in 1909 that the late R.I. WHISPERING OAKS GERTRUDE DISNEY 385-7515 WILSONS RETURN FROM TWO WEEKS EUROPEAN TRIP Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson returned home from their two weeks trip to Ireland, Scotland and England. Their first week there it rained every day. They toured about 2100 miles on buses, thru the countrysides. In Ireland the countryside was beautiful, sheep grazing everywhere. The homes were quaint and their yards so well kept. The flowers were everywhere, flowers of every kind, the grass was lush from all their rains, the Rhododendron trees or bushes grow all along the countryside roads and were all in buds ready to bloom. The nightingales sing so beautiful there. The many horse-chestnut trees were in bloom, the fragrance was everywhere. They also toured London saw the changing of the guard, at Buckingham Palace, spent time going through Westminster Abbey. There was not much time for shopping, things were scheduled too closely. It was quite hectic they said, Mrs. Wilson said she was frighten-* ed at the thought of the plane trip but found it very pleasant. They said the food was not like home, no salads and very strong coffee. They came home exhausted. It was good to be home, nothing like the good old USA. HOSPITAL PATIENT Mrs. Harriet Duszynski, 1108 Cumberland Circle, is at St. Therese hospital in Waukegan, undergoing tests. She will be home shortly. Mr. Duszynski has returned from his fishing trip to Dryden, Ontario, where he caught his limit of nice fish. ENTERTAIN GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Wagner of Sussex spent two weeks entertaining their brother Ralph and sister-in-law, Pauline, who were their guests. They visited many friends in the surrounding area also Chicago, for they were originally from there. They also spent time at Marengo, where they saw a play. Mrs. Lahs had the canasta card club at her home. Molly Miller won first prize. Mrs. Sauter had a family picnic in their back yard. Those who were there were her sisters, an aunt, their son and family. It worked out very well thanks to the wonderful weather, on Friday. Where did that nice weather go?
