The award was presented to her cm Friday, June 6 at the awards presentation ceremony of the 1969 senior class. Presenting the award to Joann was Mrs. Lucy Domino, president of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Mrs. Domino said, "It is a genuine pleasure to present to an outstanding student as Joann, this scholarship in the v£lue of $4,000." Joann also received a state scholarship and a one-year scholarship from McMurray college, and was chosen alternate for the 1969 scholarship for four years of Latin. BIBLE CHURCH WILL CONDUCT VACATION SCHOOL The Wonder Lake Bible church will conduct its vacation Bible school for ten days,, from June 16 through June 27, 9 a.m. to noon. All boys and girls who have completed first grade through eighth grade are invited to attend. Those needing transportation are asked to call the church. There will be Bible lessons, handcraft projects in wood and ceramics, recreation and refreshments. EIDE WRITES STORY ON MARS PROGRAM LOCALLY From Western Illinois university, Macomb, 111., the Plaindealer has received a story written by Rockwell Eide of McHenry for the journalism class of Reef Waldrup, coordinator of publications. It is printed in full. "The Johnsburg Public Junior high school in Johnsburg has initiated the MARS program, Military Affiliated Radio System, this past year. "When asked about the program, Mr. James Bush, superintendent of the school, replied, 'It is an extracurricular activity which the school began in January. We adopted it primarily to educate some of our . students in a rather unique field at the junior high level.' The program offers no credit or grades to its students. They meet from 11-12 o'clock on Tuesday and Thursday morning and from 6:30-9 on Monday night. After enrolling in the course, attendance is required, and any student with excessive absences will be excused from the program. "The program consistst>finstruction in areas of closed circuit television production and citizen band radio broadcasting, as well as ham radio operation. The program is offered to those junior high students who show an interest in it and maintain a minimum of a C average throughout junior high school.
