The kids have worked very hard planning for this event and need all of your support in making it a big success. , LITTLE LEAGUE The Lakeland Park Boys Baseball League opened the 1969 schedule on Sunday, June 8, and were rained out which isn't too unusual considering that out of the first twentytwo days in June seventeen were rainy! What is remarkable- is that this was tht^nly game so far in the'schedule which was rained out. The standings for the Major league teams are as follows: The Pirates are first with five wfns and no losses; the Orioles have two wins and two losses and the Tigers have five losses. There are only three major and three minor league teams this year. In the Minor league the Phillies are first with four wins, one loss and one tie; the Twins are second with two wins, two losses and a tie. Hie Dodgers have one win and four losses.. On Monday, June 30, the Pirates will play the Orioles and the Phillies will play the Dodgers. Tuesday, July 1, the Tigers will meet the Orioles and the Twins will meet the Dodgers. On Wednesday, July 2, it will be the Pirates vs. the Tigers and the Phillies vs. the Twins. Game time is 6:30 sharp. GIRL SCOUT TROOP 320 The Girl Scouts are planning a trip to Adventureland on Tuesday, July 1. They are meeting at the American Legion parking lot at 8:30 a.m. All the girls are to bring their permission slips and a nosebag lunch, and spending money. The trip was originally planned for. Tuesday of this past week but was postponed because of the'weather. Here's hoping they can make it this time. BOY SCOUT TROOP 459 Parents Night was held last week at the Boy Scout meeting. Terry Be no was given the Life Scout Award which he has earned. Many of the boys received badges and Tenderfoot and other awards. Special awards were given to the wives for their patience and understanding when their husbands have given so much of their time to scouting. Some of the boys from the troop left last Sunday for the Black Hawk area council summer camporee which is being held in Waters Meet, Mich., this year. The camporee is at the Northwoods Boy Scout camp. They will be enjoying a week of fishing, boating, swimming and all the other things that boys like to do. They will be returning this Sunday, June 29. The leaders of troop 459 are Mr. Rode and Mr. Campbell. The summer schedule for meetings is in effect with meetings being held on the usual Tuesday (evening beginning at 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m; COMMUNITYHOUSE SCHEDULE All bookings for the Lakeland Park community house are to be made in advance by calling Jo Rizzo at 385-2728. STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK Ron and Jackie Creutz and their two boys are just back from a glorious week in the north woods where they really roughed it along with Ron's folks, Bill and Eleanor Creutz, of McCullom Lake. They stayed with Buck and Molly Burger and had a "cabin" with wall to wall carpeting and a built in staMA and tnlnvigioj)'. Tom caught the first Ssh which really made his week. And when will you be going back? Scooter Koehl had surgery at St. Tlterese hospital in Waukegan last Tuesday and should be recovering nicely at home about now. Bud Walker is a patient at Silver Cross hospital in- Joliet where he is having tests and Joe Schwetz is also in the hospital for testing. Joe is a patient at McHenry hospital. Hope that all you fellows are ; feeling in' the pink in double time. Linda Rae Stapp of Muskegan, Mich., has been visiting with her mom, Marie Matchen. Her daughters, Michelle and Lisa Ann, became re-acquainted with their Grandma and they all had a nice visit. Linda Rae^s hus- ^tand, Jack Stapp, was struck by lightning on June 11 and was found unconscious by his son, Jeff, in the brs^^way. Luckily he wasn't seriously hurt and is recuperating. Hope that you get your-kiddies registered for swimming lessons. They will be held beginning August 11 through August 22. Barbara Emery, 385- 2553, and Mrs. Lasko, 385- ,4961, are co-chairmen. Mothers will be needed for beach duty during lesson time and volunteers can contact either of these two gals. The Herzbg (West) Beach will be closed to everyone else during lesson time as has been the practice' in preceding years. Don't forget to drop in at the community house on Sunday from 2:30 on to have some ice cream and browse through the bazaar that the 4-H kids have worked so hard for. Bill and Julie Perry stopped by for a visit, last Sunday after they visited the. art fair.' Their kiddies are really sprouting up and little Joe will be celebrating his first birthday next week. Virginia Fry and her children are visiting with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Poole. The kid£ have made many friends in the neighborhood so they really enjoy visiting Grandpa and Grand-, ma.
