Some of the folks won some nice prizes in the contest. The rains came, but some of us let it come, we stayed on even tho the floor was full of rivers. We just huddled together and put our feet out of the water on to the benches and talked. BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES Mr. and Mr si Harry Symonds, 4411 Sussex, will celebrate their forty-first wedding an­ niversary the twenty-fourth. They had many good years to­ gether1, and may they more. Frank Crawfofrd of Sussex drive had a birthday July 16. They were called to a funeral vemai^ in Canton, 111. , for a dear friend who passed away. It was 105 degrees there. Mrs. Edna Boutall, 4411 Ashley, had a birthday the twenty-first. There was a lit­ tle birthday party for her with a pretty cake from her daugh­ ter. VACATIONS Mr. and Mrs. A. Kueh, 1117 Cumberland spent some vaca- up at Long Lake resort, Rip­ pling water was the name of their cottage and it rippled rain all the time. A11 they got was bottle bass. They will go again next fall. Then they will bring home some fish, they hope. The O'Brien family, 1006 Es­ sex, are home from their va­ cation. They were up in Eagle River, Wis. A tornado struck near by just before they got there, sending eighteen to the hospital. Thepe were large trees down, lots of damage around. They visited an aunt while up there. Their son, Den­ nis, caught the most fish. They enjoyed their motor boat while re and went sight-seeing. NEW RESIDENTS Francis and Margaret Rod­ ney are new residents at 1115 Front Royal. Mr. Rodney is retired from an oil company. They have lived in many cities due to the nature of his work, but wound up in Whispering Oaks. They moved here from Evanston, June 17. They have five children, two sons living in Hinsdale, Richard and Dennis, a daughter, Mrs. Madden, in Kansas City, Kansas, James in Milwaukee, and Terrence in Minnesota. NEW GRANDDAUGHTER Mr. and Mrs. Phol have a new granddaughter, a little sis­ ter for Eric. Her name is Marra Jeanne Riece and she lives in Edina, Minn. VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sass had their grandchildren with them for a week. They enjoyed them so much, they are Bar­ bara Susan and Laura Fred- rickson fro^Madison. |llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll£ tKiwanis News | WONDER LAKE CLUB Art Lau was welcomed back from the international con­ vention at Miami during the last meeting of the club. He also took a side trip to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. *. President Ward Ehredt an­ nounced that thejclub is 1968 winner of the district member­ ship award in the "White" sec­ tion. An award will be presented to the club at the district con­ vention in Chicago Aug. 15. The travelling gavel will come to rest at the DeKalb club July 21. Club members will hear a re­ port from members of the Wo­ men's club July 21 on the Red Cross swimming classes con­ ducted on the Wonder Lake beaches.
