A 1 • -| -L- LAKELAND PARK NEWS r, Carol® Humana 4-H CLUB VISITS HISTORIC PLACES IN SPRINGFIELD The Lakeland Merry Makers 4-H Club left for Springfield on July 18 at 5:30 a.m. We returned around 10:45 p.m. We visited Lincoln's home, the State Capitol, the State mus­ eum and Lincoln's tomb. Then we went to >New Salem Park to eat lunch. After lunch we went to the New Salem village which was very interesting. For dinner we ate at Prairie Run in Salem. We had lots of fun. Saturday, Aug­ ust 9 - Tri-County Five Wat- ters - 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug­ ust 11 -Lakeland Merry-Makers 4-H Club meeting - 7:30 p.m. CORN ROAST The McCullom Lake Conser­ vation Club annual corn roast is scheduled for Saturday, Aug­ ust 9, at the tV'est Shore Beach subdivision beach. Officers of the conservation club have tick­ ets and further information. Jack Oakford is president of the club and offers of the LPPO. can also help you. Proceeds from the day will be used for further lake improvements. 885-1806 BIRTHDAY GREETINGS Many happy returns of the day to "Murph" Kwiatek who cel­ ebrates on August 2. Gloria Flannigan and Tom Giacomo share the honors on August 3. Carmon Hodges will add an­ other candle on his cake on August 4. Pam Mullen will cel­ ebrate her ninth birthday on August 5. August 6 is birth­ day time for Michael Pierce who will be five, for Del Burns who will be seven and for Jer­ ry Sullivan, Lee Mai and Bob Laursen. Jimmy Daurio will celebrate his fifteenth birthday on the eighth and Margaret Lane is also birthday girl for the day. Lorraine Arient and Pat Rich­ ardson each celebrate the day on August 9 along with Bob Moore who will be thirteen years old. Greetings and salutations to all. ANNIVERSARY WALTZ Our very best wishes to Ken and Jane Grothman who will celebrate their twenty-fourth wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 3. And here's to many more. STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK Only five more weeks till school starts and it looks like the stores are even more anx­ ious than the moms with all the school supplies and outfits on display in large quantities. And where did the summer go? Don't forget swimming les­ sons which begin on August 11. Each child who has been reg­ istered for the session will be informed prior to the first as tp the time of his les- son."*Fhe beach will be closed to everyone else during lesson times so that the kids can get the full benefit of the in­ structions. The East beach will be open to everyone at all times. A great big thanks to Joe Prazak. from everyone for all the time that he has given to the boys of this community over the past twelve years. Big Joe coached and managed a Lit­ tle League team and then grad­ uated to Pony League and fin­ ished his career in the Babe Ruth league. Thursday is his last day in an official capacity, but no one is taking odds that he won't be around. Who knows, by the time Jol-Lynh is old enough they may have organ­ ized girls baseball! . Dawn Wehrman is home ag^fin and back in circulation after a tonsillectomy at Harvard hos­ pital. Get-well wishes to Ray Bot- tari who is a patient at Mc- Henry hospital where he had back surgery last Thursday. Hope you're feeling in the pink real soon. Jimmy Dawson is gradually recovering from his burns but is still on the take it easy list. Mrs. Michel is home again after a stay in the hospital and we wish good health to all. Steve and Beula Hoard are en­ joying the last days of vaca­ tion at home but are still en­ joying the memories of their trip to Colorado several weeks ago. They drove down to Rocky Mountain National Park and Es- tes Park where they took a bus tour through the mountains. From the descriptions of some of those roads I'd just as soon leave the driving to them fel­ lers in grey, too. Some of the highlights of their tour were the Continental Divide and Big Thompson Canyon. All those winding roads and horseshoe curves are bad e- nough but they travelled them in a rainstorm. They brought back lots of gorgeous color film of their trip. Debbie Olszewski spent a week with the Hoards. She en­ joyed the country air and was a guest on Arient's boat several times. Mostly she enjoyed play­ ing with the girls in the neigh­ borhood of which there are an abundance! Her folks came on Saturday to pick her up and they sjy&nt-e nice day visiting be­ fore returning home. Our very deepest sympathy is extended to Kay Luing on the recent passing of her aunt, Mrs. Anna Hughes, who celebrated her 100th birthday five Vonths ago. Funeral Mass was offer­ ed at St. Patrick's church. We also take note of the pass­ ing of Louis Norton, recently of 5019 Home avenue. His wife, Bertha, preceded him in death several months ago. They are survived by three daughters and two sons. We were just visited by a lit­ ter of darling little calico kit­ tens who reside across the street. Took lots of fortitude but I managed to turn down their invitation to come live with us. Wouldn't the dog just love a kitty in residence! ENTERTAIN IMPERIALS Orchids to Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vanek and family who v»ert hosts to approximately 100 of The Norwood Park Imperials for a delicious cook-out after the parade at their home on Prairie avenue. Their daugh­ ter, Jolyne belongs to the color guard of the Imperials. rWhat a wonderful way to show their appreciation. DRUM & BUGLE SHOW Four boys and girls from Lakeland Park participated in the American Legion state drum and bugle corps show at Sol­ dier's Field last Saturday, July 26. Jolyne Vanek, Linda, Pam and Paul Zimny belong to the Norwood Park Imperials from FRI. AUGUST I, 1969 - PIAINDEALER - PG. 9 Chicago. In the final show at night the Imperials placed fifth out of eighteen corps with a score of 60.5. All the corps put on a beautiful show in spite of the rain. ENROLLS AT SCHOOL Almost 1,200 of next fall's freshmen at Wisconsin State university here have^ completed • registration for their classes and have spent a day being or­ iented to the campus. Scott Bourbon of McHenry is one who has registered for the fall term. HOLY DAY QUESTIONNAIRE Members of McHenry area Catholic churches are being given questionnaires regarding their opinion on Holy days of obligation. The National Con­ ference of Catholic Bishops, in session in Houston last Ap­ ril, decided to designate a com­ mittee to determine the attitude of priests, religious and laity on the matter. Thus; a sampling of viewpoint is being attemp­ ted.
