I PG. Iff- PLAINDEALER - FRI. AUGUST 8, 1969 MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS BONNIE MORRIS LIST EVENTS PLANNED FOR ANNUAL FESTIVAL „ Plans for the annual McCul lom Lake festival are rolling along. The festival date is next Saturday, Aug. 16. Following are the events of the day. To en ter one or more contact the chairman. At 2 p.m. the buggy parade, Ray Lary, chairman, 3 p.m. the bike parade, Ray Lary chairman, 5 p.m. -- if the Little League schedule is complete, the trophies will be awarded; ahd at 7 p.m. -- the queen contest for our new little Miss McCullom Lake. Gerry Jensen is in charge of the' queen contest. Entry blanks may be picked up at her home at 4904 ,\V. Parkview. You may contact Gerry at 385-3461. Practice for the queen contes tants will be held at the beach on Wednesday and Friday, the thirteenth and fifteenth at 7:30 p.m. For any of you men who would like to help out, be down at the beach Friday night, Aug. 15, with a hammer to help put up the stands for the games. And to everyone keep the six teenth marked in red on your calendar. The festival has always been a big day for the village, and is enjoyed thoroughly by young and old alike. The Cullom- Knoll association works very hard to put this on, and we can all show our support by being there. NEW CITIZEN ARRIVES From all reports our vil lage is very proud to welcome to our shores a future beauty queen. Having seen a picture P of little Cynthia Ann Chesler when she was just a few hoi old, I heartily agree. Littli Cythia Ann was born July 28 at the McHenry hospital weigh ing in at a hearty 8 lbs. 1 oz., and measuring 21 inches. The proud parents of this little doll, are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chesler. The young lady already has quite a group of adoring fans, with some of these being her big brothers, Jim, Scott, and Johnny, and sisters, Mary and Donna. One more happy note for the Cheslers. Scott, who was severely hurt in a fall several weeks ago, is home from the hospital. He is coming along quite well for which we are all happy. For awhile the Cheslers certainly had their hands full, with moving, Scott being hurt, and awaiting a new baby, but they have taken things as they come and now the sunshine is coming through. May all of us wish the Cheslers only the very best from here on in. BABY CHRISTENED Mada Shigley was honored to be godmother for 7 week old Stanley Goebel, HI, who was christened July 27 at the Zion Lutheran church, at the 10:30 service. Little Stanley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Goebel, II. After the services, dinner was held in Richmond. We understand Mada had a little trouble holding the baby, be-* cause at 7 weeks, he weighs a whopping 14 lbs. VACATIONERS RETURN Ben and Violet Gates are back at the old grind after a great two weeks vacation. The first week they traveled by train to New Orleans where they visited The French Quar ter, saw Pete Fountain's home, and A1 Hirt's home, and just had a wonderful time. The sec ond week they took off for the North Country with their camp er. They went up to Porcupine Mt. and Copper Harbor, Mich., and then to a couple of lakes in the Hayward, Wisc.f.area. And would you believe they had beau tiful weather all the time! Sounds great!. ALL-STARS DEFEATED Our McCullom Lake Little League All-Stars went down to defeat in their first game which they played against the Won der Lake All-Stars. The final score was 20-2. Our All-Star team conisted of Ed Kuligow- ski, Mike Winters, Billy Glee- son, Larry Mullen and Bill Cunningham of the Tigers; Mike Klapperich, Mike Nitz, Tom Low, Randy Petska, and Nel son Brand of the Cubs; and Dave Kroncke, Kevin Ingersol, Greg CHalleran, Fred O'Hal- leran and Matt Levesque of the Braves. The boys were ably coached by Len Jensen and Ed Caron, but it was just not our day. ril try to let you know in advance when they will play another game. This is his day for a shut-out game ... his day to win. He's feeling pretty good about it, and who's to blame him? But what if things had gone the other way? What if some other boy had been warming up in the bullpen, about to have taken .his place? But he is cr^weH-balanced youngster, and he would have taken that in stride, too. He has learned about being a good sport, about regard for his fellow men, and about many other equally important things in Churcfu For, like thousands of other American youngsters, the Church already plays an important part in his life. That is one reason why his parents have faith in the fact that he will grow up to be a pretty fine man. Scriptures selected by tHe American BiblqfrSociety Copyright 1969 Krister Advertising Service.
