Wonder Lake Yacht Club wel­ comes a new boat to Its fleet, bringing the number of C scows to 18. The boat is owned by Dick Bland and Lenny Guerrea. Eleven sailors braved the weather and wind on Saturday, Sept. 6. Most of the boats car­ ried extra crew weight. John Wright in W 5 finished 1st. Bob Bird in W 18 was second, and our newest sailor, Dick Bland, in R 52 finished third. But then Dick relaxed his con­ trol, in jubilation, and hit a finishing mark, thus costing him a penalty of two places. The penalty gave Bob Billingsly in W 1 third, and W 19 fourth. Another new sailor, George Tensley, was so elated to place 6th, he and his wife and son crew, in celebrating, un­ balanced the boat and they cap­ sized - (That was their way of enjoying a drink) Nothing like a good drink af­ ter the race! Sunday's race was spectacu­ lar with 17 boats at the 10:30 starting line. All the boats made a good start and there was a big jam at the first mark with the unlucky ports having toglve way to the starboards. The old master, Don Coumbe, in W 9 made it around first and took an early lead, and no one could overtake him. W 8 was a close second, W 5 third, W 18 third, W 2 fourth, W 1 fifth. To those who saw the soap bowl Intra-squad contest, the following facts are evident. The Warriors do have some good size in the line this year, al­ beit quite slow, and some good looking backs. Tom Janik and Steve George impressedobser- vers with their running Friday night, and Don Thurlwell par­ ticipated in a number of tackles on defense. The Warrior pass­ ing game needs honing yet in this final week of preparation as evidenced by the fact that only a couple of pass attempts found their mark. Certainly the Warriors need to smooth var­ ious rough edges this coming week in order to start the sea­ son with a degree of success.
