Graef of Zion Lutheran church will give the invocation, At 9:30 a.m., all veterans of World War I are asked to meet at the park and march in a body to St. Mary's church. The bell in front of the church, contain ing names of servicemen who lost their lives "over there", will be dedicated. Fr. Baum- hofer and Past Commander T.L. Cy Young will be in charge of the ceremonies. All McHenry business, fra ternal, church and service or ganizations have been invited to attend these Veterans Day cer emonies. The Mc Henry area Boy and Girl Scout troops will be present, as will the famed McHenry Viscounts. American Legion Post 491 will serve coffee and sandwiches at the Le gion home on Ringwood road following the program, from 11 to 2 o'clock. Veterans Day is a national holiday, and has been observed in McHenry since the first Arm istice Day of 1918. Hie day was known as Armistice Day until 1954 when an act of Congress changed its name to Veterans' Day (in order to include all members of the military who served in all wars in which the United States has been en gaged). In recent years there has been a growing feeling, par ticularly among the older cit izens and those who served their country in time of war, of disappointment over the grow ing lack of interest. For this reason it was decided to ask McHenry Barracks 1315 of the Veterans of World War I to take over the 1969 Veterans' Day ceremonies. Starting two months ago, a committee and sub-committee were formed to activate the 1969 Veterans' Day program. The program committee had Frank Low as its chairman, assisted by Gene Kane, Ray Mc- Gee and Norm Morrison. Pub licity was placed with Pat Ow en, assisted by Clyde Blackwe 11 and Harry Donner. Also of great help to the committee were Jim McCulloch, Tom Birming ham, Hugh Fanning and taany others. It is hoped this 1969 Veterans' Day in McHenry will reawaken a spirit of patriotism so vitally needed. The 1969 Veterans' Day pro gram could not have been achieved except for the whole hearted cooperation of the of ficials of the city of McHenry, the McHenry Chamber of Com merce, the board of education, the American Legion, the V.F.W., Veterans of World War I and many other organizations. Organizations attending the ceremony in groins should call T.L. Young for location assign ment.
