ROAD DISTRICT PROJECT -- The task of installing huge culverts was in process last week on Wilmot road, where this scene was viewed. The same procedure took place in two locations on Ringwood road, all undertaken by the McHenry Township Road district. Large fluor escent ceiling fixture provides general lighting while work areas are lighted with fluorescent tubes under cabinets and recessed in the soffit above sink. Light bulbs are concealed in range hood, and recessed spotlights graze the fireplace, enhancing rough texture of the bricks. Let's face it . ... the kitchen is a place for work. And just as plant and office managers have discovered that better light ing makes for i n c r e a s e d p r o d u c t i v i t y a n d higher morale in business and industry, a well- lighted kitchen can do the same for you. In recent years the overall lighting from ceiling fixtures. which permits you to see into drawers and cupboards and provides basic room illumina tion, has been vastly improved by efficient fluorescent tubes which afford higher light val ues, more evenly distributed light and proper shielding to prevent glare. • • • Fluorescent is ideal for spe cific work areas, too. Above the sink or range fasten fluor escent channels to the bottom of the cabinets and conceal the tubes from view with opaque shielding. Or you could recess light sources into the ceiling above the range or sink. Remember, though, it takes two (either fluorescent or in candescent) to do the job. If space permits, use 36-inch fluorescent tubes. Two 75- watt floodlights are best if in candescent is used. If there is a hood above your range, it* should be equipped with one, and preferably two rockets, to assure being able to see into pots and pans. • • « If you have a dining table or breakfast bar in the kitchen, a pull-down or wall-mounted fixture centered over the eat ing area can help establish the decor of the room while en hancing the pleasure of dining in the kitchen. If you've spent a lot of time and money bringing your kitchen up-to-date with bright new appliances, pretty coun- tertops, maybe even carpeting, why not put a little light on the subject?
