U.S. Savings Bonds, was today queried about the new 5-per­ cent interest rate for Savings Bonds. "The new higher rate an­ nounced by President Nixon makes Savings Bonds a better buy than ever before", Chair­ man Still states. "It will great­ ly benefit the members of our communities who have been put­ ting aside dollars regularly- through payroll savings plans or over-the-counter purchases at their banks-savings for a new home, farm improvements, an automobile, college for the chil­ dren, a dream vacation, or a retirement nest egg". The 5-per-cent interest rate applies to all outstanding Ser­ ies E and H Bonds sold on or after June 1, 1969, if held to maturity. All outstanding E and H Bonds also benefit from the new 5-per-cent rate, beginning with the first semi-annual in­ terest period starting on or after June 1. According to Mr. Still "The maturity period for Series E Bonds has been reduced from 7 years to 5 years, 10 months. H Bonds continue to mature in 10 years. "Freedom Shares -- which have been sold in combination with E Bonds since May 1,1967 -- will be removed from sale effective June 30, 1970". County Nurses Attend Recent Moline Seminar Loretta Kohl, R.N., McHenry county tuberculosis nurse, and Evelyn Mengs, executive direc­ tor of the McHenry County Tuberculosis association, at­ tended the Interagency Semin­ ar on respiratory Diseases as the Lutheran hospital in Mo­ line recently, Program co-ordinator, Dr. Eric Peterson, discussed res­ piratory diseases and urged seminar participants to stress prevention in their programs. "Early detection, before the patient becomes symptomatic is very important", said Dr. Pe­ terson. Physical and inhalation ther­ apists from Lutheran hospital explained present rehabilitation methods and demonstrated home care for the respiratory disease patient. The one-day seminar was sponsored by the Illinois Con­ ference of Tuberculosis Work­ ers, the Illinois Association of Tuberculosis Treatment Boards, the Illinois Thoracic society, and the Illinois Tu­ berculosis and Respiratory Disease - RD committee.
