The program will be held at W est Campus high school and it will be open to all students 10 years of age and older. Girls who were not members of the GAA (Girls* Athletic Association) were per­ mitted to play on a team and most of the young ladies ac­ quitted themselves quite well. Volleyball sparked great in­ terest among the boys as a close race for top honors pre­ vailed on the Junior-Senior level. The standings in league play were decided upon by a to­ tal point basis rather than games won and lost. The upper- classmen champs were the GNARDS who tallied 180 points. They were closely followed by the TROLLS with 173 points. The standings appear as fol­ lows: Junior- Senior standings Gnards 180 Trolls --- 173 Newts 128 Devils 125 On the Freshman-Sophomore level, the Suns easily out-dis­ tanced all of their rivals by tallying 226 points. The second place team, the Hucksters, were the only team to seriously challenge the Suns as they dropped two one-point decisions to them. The Ail-Star Game between representatives of the Fresh­ men-Sophomores and Juniors and Seniors was settled by play­ ing two out of three games to decide the champion. The Jun­ iors and Seniors prevailed by scores of 15-0, 8-15, and 15-9. Next on the Intramural agenda is basketball; and enthusiasm is already sky high for this big winter pasttime. ELM STREET 385-7320 Special Deer Hunts Planned By Conservation Department More than 3,000 applications to participate in special deer hunts on the Horseshoe Lake and Union County conservation areas were received Dec. 15 and 16 by the Illinois Depart­ ment of Conservation. Jack Calhoun, leader of the deer project for the depart­ ment, said the quotas were fill­ ed on Dec. 15. No more ap­ plications will be accepted. The Horseshoe Lake Area is near Olive Branch in Alexan­ der County. The Union County Area is near W are. The purpose of the hunts is to reduce the whitetail populations that have increased to a level where con­ trol is necessary, Calhoun said. The conservation areas were established to provide wintering grounds for the large flocks of Fri., Sat., Sun. 7:00 & 9:20 Mon.-Thurs. 7:30 Only Canada geese that arrive in southern Illinois in fall and stay until spring.
