Television viewing brighter and better than ever before If ever a year is singled out as the one in which color television came of age in maximum picture quality, 1975 might be the one, and the color televi sion models from General Electric might be the rea son. This year General Elec tric Television has pro vided an even further ad vance in the picture qual ity of its small screen Porta Color® TVs by in troducing a short-neck, 90-degree deflection "In- Line" picture tube design ed to provide better color and higher reliability than ever before in GE televi sion history. The new picture tube uses a short-neck, 90-de gree deflection system which allows for the pro duction of a more compact set than with conventional 90-degree tubes. In addition, GE has de veloped a new quadrapole convergence system, which permits the manufacturer to provide the new slotted .mask, short-neck "In- Line" picture tube system , with total surround black matrix. This means, sim ply, that each bar of color is completely surrounded by the black matrix which results in improved con trast and delivers sharp, crisp and highly detailed color pictures. General Electric knows the most about "In-Line" picture tube capability, be cause the company pio neered the system in 1965. Since then, "In-Line" has been widely adapted by the television industry. Color television from General Electric provides not only the brightest pic tures ever in its history, but the most color tuning flexibility and personal viewer options. GE's Automatic One Touch Color® System, for example, features easy, self-adjustable, redundant controls. The system acti vates pre-adjusted color controls to give the viewef a clear, sharp color picture with the touch of a button. But General Electric Color Television does not lock the viewer into any kind of picture except the one he wants to suit his individual taste. A new feature--Custom Picture Control--guaran tees this. Now, with the twist of a single knob the brightness, contrast and color intensity can be raised or lowered, simul taneously, without losing the relationship of one to another. And in suiting individ ual tastes and screen size preferences, GE TV this year has not left anybody out. GE's color portables comprise a model line that includes 10", 13", 17" and 19" (diagonal) screen sizes. In large screen viewing, General Electric's color console selections also boast brighter, sharper pictures in what is called the new MC chassis. High er KV's and a voltage reg ulator system that keeps the picture bright and sharp even during "brown outs" are the key features of this chassis and place it on the top line of lux ury, large screen color television viewing. The new MC models from General Electric re flect the most widely ac cepted definitions of qual ity furniture styling. Contemporary, Early American and Mediter ranean designs are beau tifully presented in a va riety of wood-look finishes with period hardware. All the 25" (diagonal) con soles from General Elec tric are of 100 per cent sol id state construction, with snap-in, snap-out modular units for easy in-home, one-call service. The beautiful color pic tures are provided through the new Automatic One- Touch® color system with redundant controls and single knob custom picture control. . Supporting the new, beautiful and bright color television models from General Electric comes the assurance of professional care and service, when needed, through GE's na- . tional network of Custom er Care Everywhere service centers and the General Electric, warranty service program that includes the in-home warranty for 19" and 25" Solid State color models. Performance Television -- quality in design and service is the General Electric color television experience this year. A 20th birthday party... in color! Color television is mark ing its 20th birthday. In reviewing the past 20 years of color television receiver development, Wil liam E. Boss of RCA Con sumer Electronics said the estimated 60 million color receivers sold in the United States since RCA initiated production of color tele" vision receivers on March 26, 1954, had a retail value of $35 billion. "To many of us involved in the industry since that time, the past 20 years have moved unbelievably fast from zero saturation to today's market where two out of three American homes contain a color tele vision receiver," he said. Mr. Boss said RCA anti cipates the structure of the RCA new color TV product line with half as many models as in 1973 will be welcomed by the public and retailers who have become critical of lengthy product lines and various levels of product performance now present in color television re ceivers. He stressed the pioneer ing requirements that have been part of the color television industry since 1954. In that intro ductory year, color TV sales reached 5,000 units nationally, valued at less than $5 million. Sales in 1973 set a new record of 9.3 million receivers with a retail value of $5 billion. Here's fine design and sound too! Fine furniture combined with high performance high-fidelity components are featured in the 1975 line of stereo consoles from GTE Sylvania Incor porated. New console line Of the 13 consoles in the new line, six comprise the Concert Master Collection. These units are styled in a variety of designs. One model is of Classic design finished in rich pecan veneers. Others have the massive, carved look of Mediterranean design with either oak or pecan finishes. Two consoles fea ture the detailed crafts manship of Early Ameri can styling with gallery rail and bracket legs. All models have appropriate decorative hardware to as sure the look of an au thentic period piece. High-fidelity compo nentry in the Concert Master series includes an air suspension, wide dis persion speaker system featuring six speakers to cover the full frequency range of human hearing. The consoles also have automatic turntables with a low mass tone arm for longer record life, a built- in 8-track tape player and a sensitive AM/FM/FM stereo receiver. Performance and style The Dynamic America stereo consoles offer the right combination of per formance and value in furniture styles certain to complement any room set ting.
