PAC.E 10 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1975 HELPING PAWS by Nancy Hanson (Phone 653-4816) I t s ta r ted out just another day. We got up. let out our dog, Sunday, and sorted breakfast. After breakfast we called Sunday to come in. She didn't roine Well, she probably took a longer walk than usual. By noon 1 was calling the neighbors. After school we asked the school kids if they saw' her. After supper we started searching the whole subdivision, but hoping not to find her hurt or worse. She . had been like our first baby. We adopted her after our honeymoon and had "her alone - ' for two years before our son came. 'We cried that night, but I knew she'd come home tomorrow, tired and hungry. Hut. she didn't. We called the county, the ' icwspaper. the radio, and neighbors. Everyone tried really hard to help us. Two years later we heard a bark outside our house. I jvjmped up My husband said. You know it 's not her." We cried again. Not knowing what happened just tears us apart. Why didn't we take better care of her? Walk her on a leash? Asking, "Why didn't we?", doesn't do much good now. Skinner on their concerns about legislation being made in Springfield. He stressed that each committee formed would carry its own weight in order to give objective reports and opinions. Rep. Skinner made a few brief remarks to the council describing his need for assistance by showing the council a stack of house bills approximately 5Vfe feet high which represents only a portion of the bills that have been presented to the House during the 78th General Assembly. George Boulet, as another spokesman for the executive committee, explained the organization of the council and the work that would be ex pected from the various committees. Originally it had been presumed that three com mittees would be formed based on the results of questionnaires that Rep. Skinner had sent out throughout his district in the past two years. Those com mittees would be in education, transportation, and en vironmental and consumer protection. Because of the large number in attendance, a senior citizens group was formed. Other subjects will be covered in future meetings. Each committee made plans Friday night for its next meeting. The council as a whole hopes to hold another general meeting in the near future in the western part of the 33rd district to begin the formation of additional committees.
