Frank Freund, local con­ tractor and builder, has started work which when completed, will transform his residence on Elm street into a two flat building. The lower flat will continue to be occupied by the owner and his family. While the upper one has been rented to John Keg. Lee Hodge of Solon Mills returned home last week after spending the winter with his brother at Brainard, Minn. So Solon has a barber shop again. Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Covalt passed several days last week, in the metropolitan city where the former attended a lum­ berman's convention at the Hotel Sherman. Auction sales in this com­ munity are more numerous just now than has been the case in a number of years. Judging from the number of sales there will be a large number of farm changes on March first. Kathryn Donavin celebrated the seventh anniversary of her birth at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Donavin, on Main street. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Feb. 14, 1935) Thirty-six McHenry men and women will participate in the annual drive for funds to finance Boy Scout activities in McHenry, Feb. 19. The break­ fast to be served to all captains and workers will start at 8 in Bicklers McHenry house. Albert Krause, local post­ master, is acting as cflairman of the McHenry drive. Earl Harrison of Ringwood entertained thirty friends at his home Tuesday evening. Each guest brought his baby picture and much pleasure was derived from guessing who each one was. Anton P. Freund and Alvin Phannenstill were injured in Chicago Friday when they were caught between two automobiles. They were taken to St. Anne's hospital where it was found that their legs were badly bruised. Roy Kamholz captured~first place in the Club Small Bore Trophy Match at the McHenry Rifle club range with a fine score of 362. Roy seems to be about the best of the lot in the off-hand shooting and always finishes strong. Mrs. William Marshall an­ nounces the marriage of her daugher, Dorothy Alice, to Mr. Ralph H. George Dowe, 70, died at his home on Lake street, McHenry, Feb. 17, after a long period of poor health. Miss Elizabeth Harrer, niece of Mrs. Charles Herdrich and Joseph Harrer of McHenry arrived by plane from Ger­ many recently. She left Frank­ furt, Germany, at 5 p.m. on Feb. 8 and arrived in Chicago midnight on Feb. 9. McHenry friends of Miss Delores Vales (known professionally as Lorrie Vales) will have an opportunity to see the lovely young lady on television Feb. 23. She will appear on WGN-TV in a beauty contest with winners to be selected by popular vote. Dr. Joseph Frey of Pistakee Bay left last week with a group of Chicago friends for a trip to South America. They are making the trip on water. In their itinerary are included Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Mon­ tevideo and Buenos Aires. Enroute home by plane they will make a stop at Lima, Peru. Carol Harrison of Ringwood, student at the university of Illinois and a resident of 4-H House on the capnpus, will speak at the annual banquet for 4-H leaders in Woodstock March 4. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Altman and family of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are visiting in the Frank Hay home, Mr. Altman has been transferred by the telephone company to Gary, Ind. Rev. Pope is a former resident of Ringwood and a graduate of McHenry high school. McHenry Township's share of the Motor fuel Tax paid into the state treasury during January amounted to/ $14,917. Fire damage estimated at about $500 was reported to the bathroom in the George Lombard home east of McHenry. Members of the family were attempting to thaw pipes in the home and the wood between the walls started to smoulder and burn. St. Patrick's Catholic church was the scene of a beautiful mid-winter wedding Feb. 13 when Miss Carol Freund and Mr. James P. Smith exchanged nuptial vows. Rev. Fr. Eugene Parker officiated at the Mass. Samuel T. Beaman, 51, of Barnard Mill road, Ringwood, died Friday, Feb. 12, in McHenry hospital where he had been confined for a week. Chairman Ethel McCraith, state Americanism chairman, and June Savage, state Patriotic instructor, were co- chairmen for the event, which began at 10 a.m. and concluded with a second session at 1 p.m. Dr. Hassan Rouhandeh, director of Cooperative Research Molecular and Cancer Virology at Southern Illinois university, accepted a check in the amount of $4,724.08 to further cancer research. This was followed by the presentation of Stephen Vin­ cent Benet's Stories of America by the Joliet Drama guild. Guest speaker at the 1 p.m. session was Jack Taylor, an­ chorman on WGN television "1st Addition" and News 9. Distinguished guests who attended the conference were Junior Past National Com­ mander Ray Soden and State Commander Bob McMahon. Following the announcement of President Ford's proposed income tax rebate plan for individuals# I recommended an alternate plan to both the President and Congressional leaders. I believe my plan is more equitable and would maximize the economic impact. Here's how I compare the two plans: THE FORD PLAN: percent rebates 1. Would give flat 12 totaling $12 billion. 2. Would give a maximum $1,000 rebate to those with an income tax of $8,333. (Most taxpayers with incomes of $40,000 or more would receive a $1,000 rebate.) 3. Would give the largest rebates to those who are least likely to spend the money. 4. Would base the tax rebate on amount of the 1974 tax paid. the THE BLOCK PLAN: 1. Would give graduated declining percent­ age rebates totaling an amount to be determined by Congress. 2. Would give a maximum 40% tax rebate at lowest income levels declining to zero for those with an Adjusted Gross In­ come in excess of $40,000. 3. Would give the largest rebates to low and middle income persons most in need of tax relief and most likely to spend the money. 4. Would base the tax rebate percentage on Adjusted Gross Income and then apply it to the tax...eliminating addi­ tional tax advantage to those already benefiting from tax shelters. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? WRITE THE PRESIDENT, YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS - Make your views known, whichever plan you prefer. They are the ones who will pass and approve such legislation.
