Dessert-coffee will be served at 12:30. Following a brief meeting, the ladies will spend the afternoon calling on shut-ins and newcomers in our area. WELCOME NEW GRANDDAUGHTER Congratulations to Edward Another offering 'which is popular with the students is the stage band. This group is comprised of students who wish to develop special expertise in playing a particular musical instrument. Participants volunteer many hours of free time to assure quality in per­ formance. Mr. Toalson suggested that all the music offerings at East campus are performance oriented. He feels that students benefit by exposure to a variety of audiences and that the community, in turn, benefits from student performances both in terms of appreciation for skill development and acknowledgment of school sponsored activities. In this respect, Toalson attempts to provide performances in many different community en­ vironments. For example, an attempt is made to perform in every elementary school district which feeds District 156. The younger students seem to look at this as a special treat in addition to becoming acquainted with a program which will be available to them in the coming years. Other performances include participation in the All School Jazz festival involvement in the district solo ensemble contests during the spring semester, marching in the homecoming parade, and providing en­ tertainment for special groups throughout the community. Music performances are a tommon part of many programs offered within the school schedule. For example, the band plays at the pep assemblies, and both in­ strumental and vocal per­ formances are provided for the East campus Christmas and variety programs. An interesting activity which is presently in the planning stage is a combination pops concert-dinner. Mr. Toalson anticipates offering this program at the Country club. He is excited about the novelty aspect of such a concert for the audience, and he also likes the idea since it gives students a chance to perform for a large audience outside of a school auditorium. A serious problem in the East campus music program arises because most music offerings are only scheduled once per school day. If another one section course is offered op­ posite music, the student is placed in a dilemma in many cases because enrollment in both courses is desired. Hopefully, the district's plans to adopt a four-year high school experience will help to alleviate this problem. and Pat (Klapperich) Wagner on the birth of their daughter, Jodi Lynn, Jan. 16. Jodi weighed 6 lbs., 9 oz., at birth and measured 184 inches. Needless to say, the maternal grandparents, John and Clara Klapperich of our town, are very proud and happy to welcome their third grand­ child. The paternal grand­ parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wagner of Lakemoor. BACK HOME We were happy to bear from Mrs. Mabel Hawley 4hat she is back home after visiting with her daughter, Shirley Wood­ ward, and family in Largo, Fla. While there, she visited her sister, Mrs. Fannie Craig. ABOUT TOWN i The long weekend a week ago found Art Baker, daughters, Cindy and Laura, and son, Bob, traveling to Strawberry Point, Iowa, to visit with mother and grandmothers. Mom, Mary Baker, and son, Bill, stayed home to keep the home fires burning. Witb the weather report from out that way, Mary wondered if they would get caught in the storm that was predicted. VACATIONERS RETURN HOME An unexpected Florida vacation was in order for the Leonard Ackerman family. While there, they visited with Don Fails, formerly of McHenry, and went fishing with his former boss. They also had a visit with Len's sister, Lil Wagner, of Eau Galli, Fla., and .Porothy Decker of Union, 111. That was a real surprise. Len and the kids went out ocean fishing, and besides getting sunburned, they all caught a fish, as did Grandpa Bruce. They caught a Baracuda, Wahoo, Tuna and Bonita. But they are all home now, peeling, and enjoying the cold air. They were real lucky in the fact that they had good roads both ways. On the way home they also stopped for the day at Disney World. NEW MEMBERS The James Reed family- James, Joyce, Jim and Bob -- of McHenry had\ their church membership transferred from their former church to the Ringwood church. They were accepted as members of the Ringwood church during the services last Sunday. We welcome the Reeds to the Ringwood church. HOSPITAL NOTES So glad to hear that Bette Winston has been moved back to Memorial hospital, Wood­ stock. She's doing much better but will have to be convalescing for some time, so let's get those cards sent to Bette. Hear, too, that Lou Winn is doing better. He is just going to have to be a good boy and follow doctor's orders and his diet. Hopefully, Lou will be home by the time you read this but cards can still be sent to his home in Richmond. President of the Lakeland Park Property Owners Association, Ernest Schooley, has appointed a nominating committee to prepare a slate of nominees to be elected at the annual general meeting of the Lakeland Park Property Owners association Sunday, April 13.
