Add egg yolk and vanilla; beat well. Stir in flour and salt. If neces­ sary, chill dough until firm enough to handle, about 1 hour. Shape dough into 1-lnch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungfeased baking sheets. Press almond or walnut into center of each dough ball. Bake in 350° oven 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown. Cool on wire racks.
