Mail Questionnaires To Senior Citizens In an attempt to discover the needs of the senior citizens of McHenry county. State Rep. Cal Skinner, jr . <R-Crystal Lake) is mailing question naires to approximately 5,000 senior citizens county-wide. This .questionnaire was designed with the assistance of Dean LaFrentz from the Department on Aging in Springfield and its results will be turned over to the newly formed senior citizens council of McHenry county. "For too long, those over 65 have been taken for granted in McHenry county; , Skinner said. "Some can't even afford to retire locally. Those who can manage to hang on are usually ignored bv our youth-oriented communities. "Questionnaires, such as the ones I have sent out this week, can be a useful tool in deter mining the needs of out seniors ' I believe it is t ime for all governmental agencies to listen to the needs of those they are going to serve before a program is begun. Too often the approach of governmental departments has been to design in program and hope that it f i ts the community". Skinner continued. "The Department on Aging seems to be taking a step in the right direction by encouraging the early participation of (hose who will be affected by any programs that may involve senior citizens". Skinner said. "Any McHenry county senior citizen who does not receive a questionnaire and would like to lake part in the survey, may contact my office by writing P.O Box :?()«. Crystal Lake. Ill . 60014 A questionnaire will be sent to you by return mai Skinner concluded. An educator, retiring after f i f t y y e a r s o f t e a c h i n g , says: "I am going to study."
