On The Sidelines With Dick Rabbitt More honors are coming to Coach Ken Ludwig of our McHenry Warrtors basketball team. On Saturday night at Bloomington the Illinois Basketball Coaches will hold their first Hall of Fame banquet. All boys who made the All State team along with parents and coaches will be present. Coach Ludwig has been selected by the coaches to receive the "Coach of the Year" award for District 6. District 6 covers the northern section of the state. He is one of 16 who will receive the award for Class AA schools. Congratulations are inorder to Coach Ludwig, and may I make a personal comment, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy, or finer coach. To clear up a matter that has been asked of me concerning scoring in a quadrangular tennis meet, I called upon Coach Gary Gray of our tennis team, and his explanation follows. In a quadrangular meet each school fields six singles and three doubles teams. The number l singles player from each school, then plays 10 games with the other three singles players at that level. The total number of games won is recorded and the player at each level with the most games won is the winner. The winning school at each level receives four points, second place receives three points, third place two points, and fourth place one point. Points are then added and the places in the meet are determined by the number of points won. Don't forget the McHenry Relays tonight at McCracken field. Prelims start at 4; 30 and the finals will get under way under the lights at about 7 p.m. School officials are hoping for some nice weather, in order that parents and fans may get to see the meet. There will be only 10 schools in the meet. Batavia pulled out due to other commitments at the last minute. This is a no no in a big track meet. Heats will have to be rearranged, and no doubt Coach Wally Scott and his staff will have to reconsider placing some of their boys in various events. It is really too bad, as the Warriors were hoping for a 12 team event, coming close with eleven, and now having only ten teams. It really isn't fair to the rest of the teams, that Batavia pulled out at the last minute. Juggling of teams in various heats, could cause some problems, but knowing how the Warrior staff works, I am sure everything will work out for the best. - The Warriors of Ken Swanson are still in the fight of it for the North Suburban crown. Defeating Barrington has to be a big feather in the cap of the popular coach and his squad. Along with this win was the fact that they beat the number one pitcher of the Broncos, Rob Simon. Twelve major league scouts were in attendance for the game. They came to watch Barrington's fine catcher Frank Shellenback. They didn't see too much, as he committed two errors, and Dave Wickenkamp struck him out twice. Neverthless Shellenback is a fine player. Coming into today's game he had 11 hits in 15 times at bat. He will go early in the high school draft for the major leagues. He has all the tools to become a great one. Gary Gray's tennis team hung a defeat on Woodstock. Woodstock has a real fine team. They won the Northwest Suburban last season and are a favorite to repeat this year. It looks as if athletics at McHenry are looking up, with a fine football, and basketball team, now the tennis, track, and baseball teams are all having banner seasons, the future looks quite good for McHenry teams in the future. Frosh And Soph Ball Teams Beat Wauconda Monday evening in a slight downpour the McHenry fresh men and sophomores both defeated Wauconda at Mc Cracken Field. The soph's behind the 3 hit pitching of Dave Kuechel won 5 to 3. Kuechel walked only one and struck out one in winning his second game of the year The treshmen had a easier- lime of it as Bob Hansen limited the Wauconda nine to 2 runs. His Warrior mates gathered in 10 for a nice 10 to 2 victory. The sophomores and varsity have a Saturday holiday this weekend, while the freshmen will play a make-up game at Mundelein. Soph Netters Loose To Barrington, 3-2 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Toby Scott's McHenry sophomore tennis team lost to Barrington by the score of 3 to 2. Landa of Barrington defeated Thomas 6-3, 6-3. A BOXING * * * WASHINGTON, D.C.-One has the feeling Muhammad Ali is making all the money he can before facing George Foreman again. Perhaps that 's justified, after Ali 's great win over champion Foreman last year. Nevertheless, the longer he waits before taking on young, strong George the lesser chance Ali has of do ing him in, again. Foreman isn't so dumb he'll fight the same wild, free-swinging fight all the way next time. In fact, though psychology is a new asset Ali will have going for him this time. Foreman will be both smart er and unhandicapped by overconfidence. In short, the next Ali- Foreman fight isn't one that can be figured. That might be one reason Ali wouldpre- fer to take on Joe Frazier first. Frazier might be less dangerous, and would draw a big gate and give a good account of him self. The freshmen lost 11 to 1, and the frosh B squad lost 12 to 9. This Week's Winning State Lottery Numbers . Spring brings many door-to-door salesmen to the area. Some are from reputable firms, selling qualty products or services. Others may use false credentials to get into your home to pressure you into "buying" 1. Protect yourself, until you are sure ! . .don't admit any person into your home 2. If you allow a salesman to enter, think the offer through thorough ly before you write a check. Make the check payable to the company, NOT TO THE SALESMAN. Don't write check until you are sure! If the individual won't take no for an answer, call the police... don't write a check and then stop payment on it. Many area businesses have cashed such checks in good faith, only to find out that payment had been stopped on the check and trouble ensued. A stop payment does not necessarily relieve you of the responsibility for payment of a check. 3. When purchasing automobiles, appliances or contracting for home improvements, do not sign an installment contract unless you intend to make monthly payments. Many unscrupulous companies have been known to discount your contract with loan companies and the company makes the monthly payments in your name. This is a method for the company borrowing money which they may not be able to do on their own. 4. McHenry is one of Illinois finest shopping centers.
