Bolger, president of the MeHenry State bank, attended the Independent Bankers Association of America's Legislative meeting in the nation's capital Mav 14- 15. The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate pending bank and farm legislation and the effect passage of this legislation > could have on bankers and their customers, Bolger said. Among the topics discussed were the Financial Institutions act, which would change the way the nation's financial in stitutions do business -- amendments to the Emergency Livestock Credit act, flood insurance, emergency housing programs and issues relating to electronic banking. Bolger stressed that bankers must not only keep abreast of legislative issues, they must speak out on them. "Bankers have an obligation to the communities they serve to let elected officials at the local, state and federal level know how planned legislation will effect the people they serve.
