On The meg by Dick Rabbitt The Warriors opened a lot of eyes last Friday night. With only five returning lettermen on hand, they shot down the speedy Warhawks from North Chicago. Playing an opening game without a fumble must be some kind of a record for a high school team. Here's hoping the Warriors can continue the good work and put a lot of wins on the scoreboard this year. Hutch's "Running Warriors" are coming along fine. When injuries and the flu bug leave the Warrior camp, watch out, they will be heard from far and near. Chuck Cuda's young golf team will improve every match. His team is made up of underclassmen, and they can really play the game. Congratulations are in order to sophomore Tim Beyer who carded a 1 under par 35 at Grayslake on Tuesday. Maybe Tim can give a few lessons to Jerrv Rogers. Brickhouse and Car ay alias Vern Petersen and Tom Parsley were in the press box doing the play by play for WIVS and WXRD last ^Friday night. Both being ex-coaches their knowledge of the game is outstanding, and they both do a super job. With the exception of tonight's game against Dundee they will do the play by play of all home Warrior games the rest of the season. If you can't make it to the game I suggest you tune them in, you will be in for an evening of entertainment. They keep the press box in stitches. It got so crowded, that even SIH had to stand to see the action on the field. Maybe some day the box will be enlarged. Two of the early season favorites for the Class 4 A title won last week. Barrington and Joliet Catholic. Last year in the quarter finals, Barrington defeated J.C. 28 to 20, only to lose to state champion Rockford East the following week. Class assignments for the coming year are as follows. 1 A 141 to 303, Class 2A 322 to 512, Class 3A, 541 to 988, Class 4A 1149 to 1956, and 5A 2139 to 3863. The North Suburban Conference is now the largest in Class 4A, followed by the Big 12 which includes Danville, Champaign, Decatur and others. The Northwest Conference, the sister conference of the North Suburban, is now in 4A. Early speculation is the winner of the Northwest will play the winner of the North Suburban in the first round playoff. A McHenry-Woodstock or a McHenry-Grant game would fill McCracken Field to an overflow. It could happen. Ron Miller has been elected offensive captain for the Elmhurst Blue Jays. Ron is starting his fourth year as regular quarterback. Dave Dulberg is on the football squad at Lakeland College in Wisconsin. And get well wishes to Lee Mai, who missed his first athletic contest last Friday night in many a moon. Lee is recovering from a broken arm, and didn't get to see the Warriors and his sons Mike and Steve play last week. Bet he will be there tonight. McHENRY COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL Golfers Split With Tigers And Grayslake Bv Dick Rabbitt Coach Chuck Cuda's McHenry high golfers split a pair of matches early in the week. On Monday they lost to Crystal Lake 154 to 159, and on Tuesday they defeated Grayslake 162 to 197. In the Crystal Lake match Bob Buenzli and Tom Pepping each carded a 39. Bob Lunkenheimer had a 40 and Lowell Kively shot a 41. Against Grayslake Buenzli, Pepping and Lunkenheimer all carded 40's and Kively had a 42. ' The sophomores split with the same teams, IdSing to Crystal Lake 179 to 183, and defeating Grayslake 168 to 189. In the Grayslake match young Tim Beyers shot a 1 under par 35 to lead the young golfers. Against Crystal Lake Mike McCIure had a 43, Tim Beyers a 44, Jeff Huml a 45.
