Contemporary Soloist Sings LEAH RENEE RODE ENGAGEMENT-Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Rode, Jr., of McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Leah Renee, to Jeffrey Leskosek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leskosek of Cedarburg, Wis. The bride-to-be is a 1973 graduate of McHenry Community high school and graduated in May of 1977 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She is presently a fourth grade teacher in Woodstock. Her fiance is currently enrolled at University of Wisconson-Whitewater, majoring in finance. No wedding date has been set. Women Aglow in Christ, a Christian, non-denominational organization, presents Jana Wacker, a former nightclub entertainer and motion picture star, now a talented contemporary gospel music soloist at Martinetti's restaurant on Route 14 in Crystal Lake Thursday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. * Jana, a gifted song stylist whose life is a true Cinderella story complete with a Prince Charming ending, was born in a Jersey City ghetto. At age 16 while working in a garment factory, she dreamed of becoming a glamorous movie star. Incredibly, her dreams came true with appearances on the Steve Allen, Ed Sullivan, Bing Crosby, Joey Bishop, Jimmy Durante and Donald O'Conner TV shows and appearances at prestigious night clubs across America. Jana met and married Chicago's most eligible bachelor, Frederick G. Wacker. Jr.. (the family for JANA WACKER which the famous Wacker drive was named.) The final chapter of her Cinderella story came true. Yet, as Jana recalls it, her life was still empty and unsatisfied. "My life seemed perfect," she says, "from everyone's view except my own. Something was missing. Inside I had a longing which fame and fortune couldn't seem to satisfy,'^. Then a friend shared wjrfnJana how her own life wasr changed through the love and forgiveness of God. McHenry Club Unanimously Accepts Candidate Slate x SUSAN HONNING t- MARK FERGUSON SPRING 1979 WEDDING-An engagement ring presented during tHe Christmas holiday has resulted in wedding plans for Susan Honning and Mark Ferguson in the spring of 1979. The engagement <( the bride-elect is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Honning of 401 Mineral Springs drive, McHenry. Her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ferguson of Iowa City, Iowa. The couple are both senior students at Iowa State university, Ames, Iowa. Miss Honning, a McHenry Community high school graduate, accepted the congratulations of her sorority sisters after announcement of the betrothal during a candlelight ceremony Jan. 17. The proposed slate of candidates was presented to the sixty-eight senior citizens who braved the bitter cold weather of Jan. 9 to attend the McHenry Senior Citizens club meeting. , Unanimously accepted as presented were Henry Rahn, president; Frank Giel, vice-president; Marjorie Conklin, secretary; Louise Giel, financial secretary; Virginia Nix, treasurer; Lyda Radish, historian and publicity; Wanda Zima, social chairlady; Charlotte Wons, membership chairlady; Henrietta Gerber, co- chairlady; Frances Bonelli, program chairlady; Esther Heard, co-chairlady; Ruth Fradell, loop bus chairlady; Amy Wattman, co-chairlady; John Doerr, tour chairman; James Zednik, bowlin chairman; Morris Roger: newsletter editor; Alice Wi sewing chairlady; Heggeland, art classes; Erwin Chermak, greeter. The secretary was ins true to cast a white ballot and the candidates were considered unanimously elected. Officers- elect will be duly installed at the meeting of the club Monday, Jan. 23. The minutes of the previous meeting had been read and approved and the treasurer's report approved for audit. The treasurer then gave a detailed report of the entire year's receipts and disbursements. She also reported that checks have been sent to the McHenry Area Rescue squad, Johnsburg Rescue squad, and "Fish" as the club's 1977 annual contributions. A letter was read from the auditor, verifying that the books are in order and correct. President Lockerbie recognized Social Chairlady Anne Rehfinger and her committee for the seasonal decorations at the dinner, and their dedicated efforts for the various events over the past few years. James Jansen reported that he is taking over the "Drivers Refresher Course" project. Kenneth Bowsher is unable to continue due to other ̂ commitments and some health problems. Mr. Bowsher handled the course during the past three years, and the secretary has been requested to send a letter expressing appreciation for a job well done. Mr. Jansen has the first 1978 series scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 26; Thursday, Feb. 2; and Thursday, Feb. 9. There are three sessions to each series, and they are held at the McHenry city hall, council chambers, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The course is designed for senior citizens who have to renew their driver licenses in the near future. It is not necessary to belong to the McHenry Senior Citizens club to avail oneself of this service. It is open to all senior citizens in the area, and i&ire&of charge. r. Reservations are to be made with Mrs. Giel promptly. On March 16, the buses for the Shrine circus atjpedinah Temple in Chicago will leave the Savings & Loan parking lot at 5:30 p.m. There are reservations still available for this event. Members will occupy first floor seats, potentate's boxes, so there will be excellent viewing of the circus. Mrs. Clara Knetzer, loop bus trips, has reservations available for the February 8 loop bus. The bus leaves the McHenry State bank parking lot at 8:45 a.m., and returns to McHenry about 4:15 p.m. Mrs. Alice Wilke, sewing chairlady, reported on her committee and their accomplishments since the group began. This industrious committee has made 112 bed pan covers; 661 lap robes; 100 bed jackets; 634 bibs; twenty- four hospital gown straps and 108 plain sheets converted to contour sheets. A committee has been formed to look into other meeting places consisting of Ralph Lockerbie, Henry Rahn, James Jansen, Lyda Radisch, Helen Strandquist, and Morris Rogers. Happy Birthday, and Happy Anniversary were sung to the members celebrating these events at this time. The social committee served coffee and cake and a social hour was enjoyed by everyone. The program Feb. 13 will be "To Improve Your Image", a talk and slides by a speaker from the Family Service and Community Mental Health center.
