PHOTOS TAKEN © V * THURSDAY FRIDAY' AND „ I SATURDAY Snowmobilers were called upon to assist in rescue operations. In many areas throughout the county, only a snowmobile could get a member of the rescue team to the site of the accident. Members of various area snowmobile clubs formed groups and traveled the closed roads all the time inspecting snowbound autos for stranded motorists. The motorists were then transported to shelters throughout the county, where they found warmth and hot food. Early Friday morning the winds were blowing with less force. Tow trucks had expereinced a busy night as operators braved the cold, while removing the autos they could reach. Plows found many roads unplowable, resembling junk yards covered by snow. Large pieces of construction machinery were called out to help the plows. A few of the roads around McHenry county were opened by noon, but in most cases it was one-way traffic in stretches. By Saturday, the main route (31) connecting McHenry and Crystal Lake was opened. But it, too, was one-way in various areas.
