MARCH SI, 1078 Some sixty delegates from the Woodstock Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses have just attended a circuit assembly at the group's assembly hall in Janesville, Wis., according to George Nowicki, local presiding overseer. Peak at tendance was 1,012, drawn from the eleven participating congregations and interested persons. "Delegates are not a specially chosen few," said Nowicki, "but our goal is for/ the entire congregation to attend. Portions of the program were particularly prepared for all groups and ages. For example, Saturday afternoon there was a symposium of three parts entitled, 'Do You Share the Good News - As an Older Man? - As a Parent? -- As a Young Person?' These talks, interviews and discussions showed the practicalness of all having some share in the vital preaching work." "Almost everyone had op portunity to have some share in the assembly besides just listening," said Nowicki. "Over forty persons had parts on the program, while others con tributed their efforts toward preparing and serving meals, cleaning the premises and other helpful services." Principal speaker and overseer of the assembly was J.M. Yasko, an active witness for over fifty years. His featured address Sunday af ternoon was, "Have Faith in the Good News". "What," asked ' Yasko, "would you consider to be the best possible news? World peace? elimination of crime? the end of all pollution? discovery of an economical, inexaustible energy source? These things," he continued, "would be fine news and would make for better conditions, but still people would age, get sick and die. Also, vexing personal and family problemswould still trouble us." "News that is truly good for all people, said Yasko, would have to bring peace of mind and a way to cope with problems now, with hope of elimination even of health problems in the future." After showing how readily available such good news has been made by God through his Word, and to show what the good news is all about, Yasko concluded, "The bible speaks of 'the good news about Christ', 'the good news of the Kingdom', and the good news of God' ". Sunday morning, fourteen new witnesses were baptized in symbol of their dedication to to the will of God. The immersion took place in an enclosed pool in view of the entire assembled group. from HISTORY'S SCRAPBOOK DATES AND EVENTS FROM YESTERYEARS March 24,1603--The Crowns of England and Scotland are joined under James VI of Scotland who starts his reign as James I. i March 25, 1954--The Radio Corporation of America begins its commercial production of television sets equipped to transmit programs in color.
