»>A(iK 4 - PLAINDEALER -FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 1978 $76,494 Debt Service Grant In District 15 * McHenry Elementary School District 15 has been notified by Dr Joseph Cronin, state superintendent of Education, of approval of a Debt Service tfrarit entitlement in the amount of $76,494.34 This marks the fifth consecutive, year the district has been successful in securing a grant of similar amount for this purpose This grant essentially represents a savings on each local property tax bill, as this amount of money does not haVe to be generated locally. The McHenry Elementary school district is proud of the fact that grant awards in these years have saved local taxpayers in excess of $373,000. Lower Premiums A savings of $10 million in the cost of state employees' group health and life insurance programs was announced by Gov. Thompson He said the savings were a result of his administration's efforts to "cut the cost of government wherever we can." He said that $7 million of the savings could be used to aid financially strapped school districts and the additional $3 million could be placed in the state's General Revenue fund to add to the state's checkbook balance. DELIGHT WIER Delight Wier and Mrs. Dana Stewart will be the guest speakers at McHenry county's second annual Food-A-Rama. Scheduled for April 26 in Building D of the McHenry county fairgrounds, Food-A- Rama is co-sponsored by the county Farm Bureau Women's committee and the Lake- McHenry Dairy Maids. A dozen displays and booths will be staffed by participating organizations and samples of many tasty farm products will be offered. A very small admission will admit persons to either of the two programs that are planned MRS. DANA STEWART as part of the afternoon and evening shows. The Food-A-Rama will open its doors at 11:30 a.m. with exhibits and displays. Sand­ wiches will be served both in the afternoon and evening. Taste treats sponsored by the beef, lamb, pork, and diary farmers will be among the bonuses for attending. In ad­ dition to sandwiches, milk and coffee may be obtained at the food booth. Married to Ralph Wier, hog, corn, and beef farmer, she is the mother of five children. In addition to her column, "Letter from a Far­ mer's Wife", Mrs. Wier is« the author of two books, "I Married a Farmer" and "Diary of the ^Farmer's Wife". Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the evening program with humorist and author, Mrs. Dana Stewart, speaking at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Stewart of Princeville, 111., has been a popular speaker at meetings throughout the state over the past twenty years. Born in Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Stewaft received a Bachelor's degree f£om Randolph-Macon Woman's college in Lynchburg, Va. She received a Master's degree from the University of Illinois. Following her marriage, she and her huband began farming in central Illinois. Mrs. Stewart describes the changes in her way of life, between living in a city in Georgia and the farm in Illinois in a book entitled "Pig and Poetry". She currently writes a column for the Princeville Telephone, a weekly newspaper. Regardless of the group to whom she is speaking, Mrs. Stewart's basic message is that if one loves life it will love them right back. Her humorous and homespun philosophy appeals to homemakers, farmers, and businessmen alike. In addition to being an author and lecturer, Mrs. Stewart is the mother of four children. She is active in her church, in the Princeville Woman's club, and the Homemakers' association. The basic purpose of the Food-A-Rama is to urge people to become nutrition conscious and to put into practice the common sense information they acquire about choosing their menus from the four basic food groups. Coordinating the event for the dairy maids are Gladys Ainger, Esther Shanks and Ruth Johnson. Ella Martin is chairman for the Farm Bureau Women's committee. Music Around The World Music teachers in McHenry schools are shown preparing for the combined districts' Music festival to be presented Thursday evening, April 27, at 7:30 in West campus gymnasium. Theme of the program is "Music Around The World". Eioise Leighty, at the piano, is vocal instructor at Edgebrook school. She plays for Carl Kohrt, left, band director at McHenry Junior high; Bill Toalson, East campus music director; Debbie Walters, Parkland Junior high choral director; Donna DeFranco, McHenry Junior high choral director; and John Leighty, West campus music director. This annual show has always been well received by the public. The event has outgrown several quarters successively tfrom the first show in 1966 to the present quarters in the Lake county fairgrounds.
